Artist Spotlight: Mike T Schmitt Mike T Schmitt is a New York-based photographer and Creative Director working primarily in film. His work centers on women in domestic interior spaces; intimate, unhurried images that document the texture of a particular moment in time without declaring it. The images are quiet but deliberate: locations sourced to feel like they belong to the subject, shoots that unfold without a predetermined final product. "I'm interested in the hour before and the hour after — not the performance, but what surrounds it. Getting ready, coming down, existing without an audience. I build each shoot around the subject's world so that when the camera comes up, nothing changes. Primarily medium format film, because the deliberateness of the process becomes part of the image. Calm "I'm Nils Heck from Darmstadt in Germany. I prefer to shoot on 35mm film because I love the process that it involves. Furthermore, this is compounded by the fact that my images are tangible from the beginning of the process.  In November, I met Amy Verlaun from Wonderwall Management, and we burned some rolls together. I shot her with no makeup and some clothes she had brought with. We just hung out, drank coffee and talked about the nuances of life.  I would call the story "Calm" because she was so relaxed in front of the camera and the pictures came out in a similar fashion. snow white in the red light Alicia recently met Marius very spontaneously in Hamburg, and after getting on so well, decided to shoot in a small but cosy apartment in the red light district. They chatted about life, listened to music, and with the flashing neon lights shifting their way in and out of the apartment, they decided to have some fun and create a set of photos that reflect the wild and untamed youth of the current generation. Twin Swim Born and raised in Siargao, the surfing capital of the Philippines, it was only a matter of time before these sisters picked up a board to learn how to surf. Now, Aping & Ikit Agudo are up and coming long boarders in the local surfing scene. Out of the water and into the lush tropical grounds of Lotus Shores Resort, we dressed the pair up in swimwear and accessories from independent Filipino brands. We were blown away with how they worked the camera, they’re gorgeous on and off their surfboards. Artist Spotlight: Ella Louise "Grounded in discourses on feminism, the concept of the female body, and my understanding of how these two manifest within contemporary photography and digital media, “Dump Him” is at once a reaction to exploitative depictions of women and an effort to separate femininity from the institutionalized masculine eye. In particular, I’ve re-imagined the female nude by literally disassembling the female body and shifting the focus onto its various parts in an attempt to create something other worldly. The result is visceral: a visual narrative that, picture by picture, strips away the pretense of flawlessness and pulls us back into our bodies. As much as this project is a political effort, it is also an experiment in lighting and space. Kid at Heart Meet a beautifully coy model named Simona. With a deeply enticing feel, this dark unicorn is something you wouldn't regret playing with on the merry-go round.  Shot on a playground, she tip toes around metallic props. Slide into infinity with her, or maybe swirl yourself into a vortex of love bending infatuation as you climb aboard the merry-go round, and spin your eyes deeply into hers.  Playground fascinations have never looked better, and Simona is sure to intoxicate you with her spellbinding eyes. Relationship Wranglers Moving onto new things after a love once lost. Nothing beats a break up like your best friend coming over to talk about it. Julia opens up the door for Lula as they comfort each other after a days worth of worry and heartache.  As the mood lightens and the cake gets cut the girls get a little more giddy and smiles start to get exchanged amongst the two more often. Seeing each other happy, in-turn makes the other more happy, and so the shared positive feedback loop potentiates their smiles to the point where a bit of bliss seeds its way into the room.  Carefree, casual and thoughtfully attentive to one anothers energy, Julia and Lula start to meld into each other with silly string and munchies. Finding the food done, and the moment delicately alleviating, the garments are lost with a twist of the shower tap.
