I opened my eyes and saw the real world, and I began to laugh, and i haven't stopped since

Søren Kierkegaard was a Danish philosopher and writer whose work laid important foundations for existential philosophy. Born in Copenhagen in 1813, he devoted much of his writing to questions of faith, anxiety, despair, freedom, and individual existence. He criticized the tendency to reduce Christianity to a social institution or a system of abstract doctrines, arguing that genuine faith required a personal relationship with God and a serious confrontation with one's own existence. Kierkegaard believed that human beings must ultimately take responsibility for how they live, rather than simply following the expectations of society. His writings explored different ways of living, from aesthetic pleasure to ethical responsibility and finally religious commitment. Works such as Either/Or, Fear and Trembling, and The Sickness Unto Death examined the struggles that arise when a person confronts freedom, mortality, and the possibility of faith. His emphasis on the individual profoundly influenced later thinkers, including Heidegger, Sartre, and other existential philosophers.
