Starknet opens vote on becoming an independent post-quantum Layer 1
Starknet has opened a seven-day governance vote asking STRK holders whether the ecosystem should research a possible transition from an Ethereum Layer 2 into an independent post-quantum Layer 1.
The vote runs from October 15 to October 22 and is explicitly non-binding. A “Yes” result would begin further research and future proposals — it would NOT automatically move Starknet away from Ethereum.
The proposal argues that Starknet’s hash-based STARK proofs already provide quantum-resistant properties, while components such as its bridge and data availability still depend on Ethereum’s own security-upgrade timeline.
STRK would remain the network token, no new token is proposed, and bridges between Ethereum and Starknet are intended to remain available regardless of the direction chosen.
Why it matters: this is an unusually fundamental governance question — whether a major Ethereum L2 should eventually control its own consensus and post-quantum security rather than depend on Ethereum.

$942M in leveraged crypto positions liquidated as longs take the hit
Crypto derivatives markets saw approximately $942.1 million in leveraged positions liquidated over a 24-hour period in an early October 15 snapshot.
Long positions accounted for about $863.3 million — 91.6% of the total — as falling prices triggered forced closures across the market.
Ethereum led the liquidation totals with roughly $283.1 million in positions closed, while Bitcoin accounted for around $196 million.
These figures represent the notional value of liquidated positions, not necessarily traders’ cash losses, and the totals continue to change as markets move.
Why it matters: heavily one-sided leverage can amplify market declines because falling prices automatically force more positions to close, creating additional selling pressure.

Binance will shut down its Bitcoin mining pool on November 10
Binance has announced that Binance Pool and its related mining services will be discontinued on November 10, 2026 at 07:00 UTC.
The closure includes Binance Pool, Pool Savings, Cloud Mining, Transaction Accelerator and related mining tools. Miners are being advised to redirect their hardware to another pool before the cutoff to avoid interruptions.
Binance Pool’s estimated hashrate has fallen roughly 65% since December 2025 — from about 26 EH/s to around 9.2 EH/s. The three largest Bitcoin mining pools now account for roughly 64% of network hashrate.
Importantly, this affects Binance’s mining services — NOT the Binance exchange and NOT the Bitcoin network itself. Mining hardware can simply be redirected to other pools.
Why it matters: fewer major mining pools could increase concentration in Bitcoin block production, making the distribution of global hashrate worth watching.

📱 LEDGER UNVEILS ATOM — A $899 CRYPTO WALLET THAT LOOKS LIKE A SMARTPHONE
Ledger has introduced Atom, an Android-based security device designed to protect cryptocurrency, digital identities, and sensitive transactions.
🔐 Unlike a regular smartphone, Atom uses a separate secure chip running Ledger OS to protect private keys and authorize transactions.
The device features a physical privacy switch that disconnects its camera and microphone at the hardware level.
📵 Atom doesn't support traditional cellular calls or SMS, although internet-based communication apps can still work.
💰 Price: $899, with a limited Founder's Edition available for $849.
🚀 Expected shipping: Summer 2027.
Ledger emphasizes that Atom isn't meant to replace your smartphone — it's designed to make your digital assets and sensitive activities more secure.

Russia to end direct P2P crypto trading from July 2027
Russia is moving its domestic crypto market into a tightly regulated framework. From July 1, 2027, residents will no longer be allowed to buy or sell cryptocurrency directly with other individuals through P2P transactions.
After the transition period ends, crypto transactions must be conducted through authorized market participants such as licensed brokers or crypto-exchange organizations included in the Bank of Russia’s official registers.
Cryptocurrency itself is not being banned. The new rules instead restrict how residents can buy, sell and transfer digital assets while bringing intermediaries under formal regulatory supervision.
There is another major restriction: the Bank of Russia says individuals are not permitted to transfer cryptocurrency from a regulated digital account to their own non-custodial wallet. Direct crypto transfers between individuals are also prohibited under the new framework.
Why it matters: Russia is not eliminating crypto ownership, but it is moving away from unrestricted P2P and self-custody transfers toward a regulated intermediary-based market.

USDC becomes the first stablecoin classified as “significant” under MiCA
The European Banking Authority has classified USDC as the first of 45 notified e-money tokens to qualify as “significant” under the EU’s MiCA framework.
The classification applies to USDC issued in the European Union by Circle Internet Financial Europe SAS.
Enhanced EBA supervision is scheduled to begin on November 12, 2026. The authority will oversee areas including reserve assets, capital, liquidity and recovery and redemption planning, while France’s ACPR continues governance supervision.
Why it matters: USDC is moving into a higher tier of direct EU regulatory oversight, showing how large stablecoins are becoming embedded in formal financial supervision rather than treated only as crypto-market products.

Qivalis gets EMI approval for planned euro stablecoin
Qivalis has received authorization as an Electronic Money Institution from De Nederlandsche Bank, giving the Amsterdam-based company a regulated foundation for its planned euro-denominated stablecoin.
The initiative is backed by 37 European banks across 15 countries, including BNP Paribas, ING, BBVA and UniCredit.
The token itself is not live yet. Qivalis says issuance is planned for the coming months, subject to MiCA requirements and publication of the relevant white paper.
Why it matters: major European banks are moving closer to issuing regulated onchain money rather than leaving stablecoin infrastructure entirely to crypto-native companies.

Solana schedules Alpenglow mainnet activation for October 21
Solana Foundation says Alpenglow, one of the network’s biggest consensus upgrades to date, is scheduled to activate on mainnet in epoch 1064 on October 21 at approximately 15:00 UTC.
The upgrade will replace TowerBFT with the new Votor consensus mechanism and targets transaction finality of roughly 150 milliseconds, down from about 12.8 seconds today.
Alpenglow also removes vote transactions from blocks and moves validator voting off-ledger. That means reported transaction counts may fall after activation even if actual user activity does not decline.
The 150ms figure is a target, not a guaranteed real-world result, and the upgrade is not live yet.
Why it matters: faster finality could materially improve trading, payments and other latency-sensitive applications on Solana while changing how network activity is measured.

U.S. inflation rises to 3.7% as Bitcoin comes under pressure
U.S. consumer inflation accelerated in September, with headline CPI rising 3.7% year-over-year, up from 3.4% in August.
On a monthly basis, CPI increased 0.6%, while core inflation rose 2.6% year-over-year. Gasoline prices were one of the strongest contributors, jumping 9.1% month-over-month.
Bitcoin came under immediate pressure after the release, with the market reacting to the possibility that stronger inflation could keep monetary policy tighter for longer.
Why it matters: crypto remains highly sensitive to macroeconomic data. Higher inflation can influence interest-rate expectations, liquidity conditions and investor appetite for risk assets such as Bitcoin.

Kraken’s parent signs deal to acquire an EU-licensed bank
Payward, the parent company behind Kraken, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Saldo Finance Oy, the Finnish parent of Lithuania-based Saldo Bank.
The deal is still subject to regulatory approval and is expected to close in 2027. No purchase price has been disclosed.
If completed, the acquisition could give Payward a stronger regulated banking footprint in Europe and support future services such as deposits, lending, payment cards and SEPA payments.
Those services are planned rather than live today, and the transaction has not yet closed.
Why it matters: crypto companies are increasingly moving closer to traditional banking infrastructure instead of operating only around it. Owning a regulated EU bank could materially expand the range of financial services available to eligible customers.

Trezor cuts reseller network after recent hardware-wallet supply-chain incidents
Trezor has announced that it is reducing the number of authorized resellers allowed to sell its hardware wallets following recent supply-chain security incidents across the industry.
The company says a smaller reseller network will allow it to perform closer checks on the partners responsible for sourcing, storing and handling devices before they reach customers.
Importantly, Trezor says there is currently no evidence that any Trezor device has been compromised. The company describes the reseller reduction as a preventive measure taken out of an abundance of caution — not a response to a confirmed Trezor hardware breach.
The move follows the recent CryptoBilis incident involving physically modified Ledger devices, which has renewed attention on hardware-wallet supply-chain security across the industry.
Why it matters: even a secure hardware wallet depends on the path it takes from manufacturer to customer. Reducing the number of intermediaries can make that chain easier to audit and control.

CoinShares launches managed onchain strategies for self-custody users
CoinShares has launched the first commercial deployment of its OnChain Strategies product through partnerships with Safe Labs and Railnet, the onchain infrastructure developed by Kiln.
Eligible enterprise users with Safe smart accounts can allocate stablecoins into professionally managed strategies spanning DeFi and tokenized real-world assets while keeping control of their own accounts and assets.
CoinShares is responsible for strategy design and risk management, but it does not take custody of client assets or commit its own balance sheet to the strategies.
Safe says its broader ecosystem secures more than $60 billion in digital assets, including roughly $7.5 billion in stablecoins. Those figures refer to Safe ecosystem holdings — not CoinShares-managed AUM or product TVL.
Why it matters: this brings institutional-style portfolio management closer to self-custody, combining professional strategy design with onchain execution and user-controlled assets.

Interactive Brokers launches Ethereum staking for eligible clients
Interactive Brokers has launched ETH staking for eligible Interactive Brokers LLC clients through its Client Portal, bringing Ethereum staking directly into a major traditional brokerage platform.
Ethereum is the only supported staking asset at launch. The service is powered by zerohash and allows eligible clients to stake ETH, request unstaking and receive staking rewards when available.
Rewards are paid as additional staked ETH and may compound over time, but returns are not guaranteed and the value of ETH can rise or fall.
Why it matters: staking is moving beyond crypto-native exchanges and wallets into mainstream brokerage infrastructure, giving traditional investors another regulated access point to blockchain-based financial services.
Disclaimer: This is for informational purposes only and is not financial advice. Crypto assets are highly volatile and you can lose all invested capital.

Bitcoin mining infrastructure is being repurposed for AI
SWI Group has announced an €800 million institutional share-capital increase to support its AI data-center and computing strategy across the U.S. and Europe.
SWI controls Genesis Digital Assets, a company that built large-scale Bitcoin mining infrastructure and previously received more than $1 billion in backing from Alameda Research.
The group now plans to convert suitable Genesis facilities in the U.S. and Sweden for AI computing workloads, taking advantage of existing power capacity, industrial sites and data-center infrastructure.
The conversion is planned rather than fully completed, and the €800 million raise is at the SWI Group level — not a confirmed €800 million deployment directly into Genesis or already-booked AI revenue.
Why it matters: access to power and data-center capacity has become one of the biggest bottlenecks in AI infrastructure. Former Bitcoin mining sites may have exactly the grid connections and energy capacity that AI operators need.

61,000 BTC remain in dispute after UK High Court ruling
A UK High Court ruling has added a major legal twist to the case involving more than 61,000 BTC seized by British police in connection with a large Chinese investment fraud.
The court ruled that Chinese law — not English law — should govern the underlying ownership claims because the alleged fraud and investment transactions took place in China.
Crucially, the judgment did NOT decide who ultimately owns the Bitcoin, did NOT transfer the BTC to the UK government, and did NOT authorize a sale.
The victims’ entitlement to the seized assets — and how any eventual distribution could work — remains unresolved.
Why it matters: this case could become an important precedent for how courts handle cross-border ownership claims involving seized crypto assets.

Wallet supply-chain alert: OneKey cuts ties with CryptoBilis and offers free replacements
OneKey has removed CryptoBilis from its authorized reseller network following the investigation into tampered Ledger devices sold through the same Southeast Asian retailer.
OneKey says it has received no reports of its own users losing funds in connection with the incident. As a precaution, however, the company has paused onboarding new resellers and launched a review of its existing dealer network. :chatgpt-content-reference{index="0"}
Customers who purchased any OneKey hardware wallet from CryptoBilis between March 1 and October 12, 2026 can request a free replacement directly from OneKey until December 31. The company advises users with assets on those devices to move them to a wallet protected by a completely new recovery phrase rather than importing the old phrase onto the replacement device. :chatgpt-content-reference{index="1"}
The broader investigation remains important: Ledger has confirmed an unauthorized hardware implant in at least one affected device sold through CryptoBilis, while stating that its own internal systems and direct sales channels were not compromised. That finding does not mean every device sold by the reseller was tampered with. :chatgpt-content-reference{index="2"}
Practical takeaway: hardware-wallet security includes the entire supply chain. Buy from verified channels, never use a recovery phrase supplied with a device, and generate a brand-new phrase when replacing hardware after a suspected compromise.

Repost from MR. WHITE MIND | Business & Success
THE INVESTMENT TRAP MOST PEOPLE DON'T NOTICE
💰 WHY INVESTORS SELL THEIR WINNERS — AND HOLD THEIR LOSERS.
Imagine owning two investments.
One has gained 40%.
The other has lost 40%.
Which one would you sell first?
Many investors instinctively choose the winner.
Why? Taking profits feels like success.
Selling at a loss feels like admitting a mistake.
But this psychological tendency can be expensive.
In a study published in The Journal of Finance, researcher Terrance Odean examined trading records from 10,000 brokerage accounts.
He found that investors were significantly more willing to sell profitable investments than losing ones.
This behavior is known as the disposition effect.
It doesn't mean every losing investment should be sold or every winner should be held. It means emotional attachment to the original purchase price can interfere with rational decisions.
♟️ MR. WHITE MIND TAKEAWAY:
“The market doesn't care what you paid. Your decisions should depend on what an investment is worth today and what you reasonably expect tomorrow.”
Before making a decision, ask yourself:
Would I buy this investment today if I didn't already own it?

MYTH VS REALITY: Disconnecting your wallet is not enough
Disconnecting a dApp from your wallet does NOT automatically revoke the token approvals you previously granted onchain.
Some smart-contract approvals can remain active indefinitely — including unlimited allowances — until you explicitly revoke them or they become invalid for another reason.
That means a malicious or compromised contract may still be able to transfer approved tokens even after you disconnect the website from your wallet. Using a hardware wallet does not cancel permissions that were already authorized onchain.
Practical takeaway: regularly review your token allowances and revoke permissions you no longer need. Revoking approvals is an onchain transaction and usually requires a small network gas fee.
Why it matters: many users think “disconnect” means “remove access.” In Web3, those are two different actions — and confusing them can leave old permissions active long after you stop using a dApp.

Standard Chartered launches institutional custody for RLUSD in Dubai
Standard Chartered has launched custody support for Ripple USD (RLUSD) for eligible institutional clients through its Dubai International Financial Centre branch.
The service gives institutions a regulated way to hold RLUSD with a major global bank rather than relying only on crypto-native custodians.
Standard Chartered, Ripple and LMAX Group are also working on a planned collateral integration that could allow eligible RLUSD held in bank custody to be mirrored as collateral for agreed trading products without moving the underlying tokens to the trading venue.
That collateral connection is not live yet. It remains subject to documentation, testing, regulatory requirements and approvals.
Why it matters: stablecoins are moving deeper into traditional financial infrastructure. A global bank offering custody for RLUSD strengthens the bridge between regulated banking, stablecoins and institutional trading.
