The fights, the exhaustion, the relief of walking away—or so it seemed. I told myself Stellar was the fresh start. Clean slate. No baggage. But you don't build something like Ripple and just... move on. It's in your hands. Your sleep. The 3 AM checks on network health that never really stop. The SEC came in December 2020. We have been served. I remember where I was. Standing in my kitchen, phone buzzing, reading the complaint. My first thought wasn't anger. It was recognition. Of course. We'd made ourselves impossible to ignore. The correspondent banks, the clearinghouses, the ones who've fed on financial friction for generations—they finally saw us as real. Not a toy. Not a speculation. A replacement. The lawsuit wasn't about protecting anyone. I knew that immediately. It was about time. Buying it. Five years of litigation while they built their own walls. More walls. I couldn't fight publicly. That wasn't my role anymore. But I watched. Every filing. Every ruling. Every accusation. Some nights I wondered if we'd failed. If the delay was the point, and the point had succeeded. The energy drained from the community. The developers who left for other chains. The partners who got spooked. Real damage to real people who believed in this. That hurt. Still does. But the ledger kept running. Transactions kept settling. I kept on showing up. I kept on delivering, on building.
