 — Yesterday marked the start of Islamic Unity Week in Iran, coinciding with Prophet Muhammad’s Mawlid (birthday)
Because Shia and Sunni Muslims believe in different dates regarding the Prophet Muhammad's ﷺ exact birthday, approximately one week apart, Ayatollah Khomeini declared the entire week as 'Islamic Unity Week' shortly after the revolution.
During this unity week, between the Sunni date and the Shia date, various events are held throughout Iran to commemorate the fact that we are one Islamic Ummah — such as Quran competitions, scholarly conferences, and large scale Friday prayers, with Shias praying alongside or even behind Sunnis.
