Captain John Parker (b.1729–d.1775) 📍Lexington, Massachusetts Captian Parker was a prominent Massachusetts militia officer and commander of the Lexington Minutemen at the start of the American Revolution. On the morning of April 19, 1775, he led roughly 70–77 militiamen onto Lexington Common to confront a force of about 700–800 advancing British regulars. Greatly outnumbered, Parker ordered his men to stand their ground. The ensuing skirmish marked the opening clash of the Revolution. Though wounded in the fighting, Parker continued to help organize local militia resistance and took part in the pursuit of the British as they retreated from Concord. Parker died of tuberculosis at the age of 46. @HistoricalNE
