‌ https://t.me/Devils_Mewsic

Leonard Bernstein talks about the time Nadia Boulanger corrected one of his songs.

"Ever since I can remember I have talked about music, with friends, colleagues, teachers, students, and just plain, simple citizens. But in the last few years I have found myself talking about it publicly, thus joining the long line of well-meaning but generally doomed folk who have tried to explain the unique phenomenon of human reaction to organized sound. It is almost like trying to explain a freak of nature. Ultimately, one must simply accept the loving fact that people enjoy listening to organized sound; that this enjoyment can take the form of all kinds of responses from animal excitement to spiritual exaltation..." -Leonard Bernstein The Joy of Music, 1957

If classical composers lived in a Tim Burton universe

In a quiet moment from a 1956 French documentary, we see the private side of a public legend: Heifetz at home in California, playing scales in his personal studio between family life and sport. The film deliberately frames the ritual — the man who could make the violin sing in public returns to the simplest, humblest exercise in private. Why scales? Because for Heifetz they weren’t a warm-up, they were the workshop of tone. Scales train: - intonation (finding absolute pitch across the fingerboard), - shifts (clean, instant left-hand position changes), - bow control & contact point (subtle changes in weight that create color), - rhythmic pulse and evenness (those devilish string crossings that must sound effortless), and the most elusive of all: a singing legato that makes a single line feel like a human voice. Heifetz’s method was surgical and devotional. He used to watch slow-motion film of his own hands and listen to his recordings to refine infinitesimal details. He would practice all scales regularly and ask the same to his students. Sure, his gift cannot be reduced to technique — but technique is the language through which the gift speaks. A Heifetz classic quote says it best: “If I don’t practice for a day, I know it; if I don’t practice for two days, the critics know it; if I don’t practice for three days, the public knows it.”
