I wroted this letter to myself. But then I realized,
Oh huh
Isn’t this what Loustat went through aswell?
I don’t miss him. He’s not who I thought he was. What I miss is the version of him I created in my mind. the one stitched together from hope, imagination, and all the things I wanted him to be. Knowing that no two fingerprints are alike, I still go searching for him in everyone I meet. His attitude. His humor. His charm. I look for fragments of him in strangers, like an addict looking for a familiar drug. But there is no one. There shouldn’t be. He was supposed to be my one and only. Sometimes I think about texting him. Seeing him. Feeling his presence. “Just one more time,” A voice inside me. then I wake up. Wait. No. He’s not the man in my mind. They’re not the same person. The one who gave me a reason to hang my will on life is gone. Maybe he never existed at all. “You need another drug,” Another? What did the last one give me besides obsession, weakness, and hurt? No. Not anymore. I’ll quit. I’ll stop chasing people. Stop looking for salvation in someone’s smile. But can I? “Humans are made for it. We spend our lives pursuing one thing after another, always reaching for it. For whatever makes us feel alive.” Stupid voice. “Can you though?” Well…It might be the sweetest drug of them all. Dangerously sweet. So I’ll try. I’ll try not to love. I’ll try not to fall in love again and again with someone who only exists inside my own head.
