The "Green Lion" devouring the Sun is a powerful, recurring metaphor in alchemical tradition representing the destructive yet necessary dissolution of matter or ego on the path to spiritual purification. The "sun" stood for gold, the most noble and uncorruptible metal. The green lion eating the sun described how acid could dissolve gold, breaking down a fixed, solid substance so it could be purified and transformed.
