Rhiannon Skye Whyte, a 27-year-old hotel worker and devoted mother of a young son from Walsall, was attacked on the evening of 20 October 2024 at Bescot Stadium railway station in Walsall and died in hospital three days later on 23 October. She had just finished her shift at about 23:00 BST at the nearby Park Inn Hotel (used to temporarily house asylum seekers) and was on the phone to a friend while waiting on the platform for her train home. Deng Chol Majek, a Sudanese national who had arrived in the UK on a small boat around July 2024 and was living at the same hotel while making an asylum claim, followed her to the station. He attacked her with a screwdriver in a frenzied 90-second assault, stabbing her 23 times, including 19 times in the head (11 penetrating the skull, one piercing the brain stem). On October 20, 1973, Quita Hague was found dead near some railroad tracks. Quita and her newlywed husband had been taking a walk near their home when a van pulled up with strangers inside. They forced the Hagues into the vehicle, tied them up, sexually assaulted Quita, and beat the couple unconscious. They drove to an industrial area and dragged Quita out by her hair. With a machete, they began slicing at the 28-year-old and her husband. Having nearly decapitated Quita and believing her husband to be dead as well, the men left. Quita was the first known victim of the so-called Zebra Killers, a group of racially-motivated attackers including Larry Green, Jessie Cooks, Manuel Moore, and JCX Simon, who killed at least 14 other people over the following six months, and may have killed several dozen more before Quita.
