i remember when my cousin was my only friend growing up. before i even understood what having a best friend meant, she had already become mine. we studied for our board exams together over video calls, spent hours talking about things we couldn't tell anyone else, and every conversation was endless (we wouldn't cut the call until one of our mothers would scold us). i still remember her stories and the way she told them, like every little thing that happened to her was worth listening to.
we never really had a falling out. life just kept happening until we slowly stopped being part of each other's everyday lives. it's strange how someone can know every version of you growing up and then slowly become someone you only remember instead of someone you know.
i don't think i miss a specific moment, i just miss the feeling of having her. i miss the certainty that no matter what happened, there was one person i could always call and i wish i could tell these things to her but i'm a nonchalant ki 14 which i'm not proud of but can't help either. sometimes i wonder if she ever thinks about those days too, or if they're only preserved in my memory now.

can never escape "government job ki tayyari karo, civil services ki tayyari karo" in this house when it is the last thing on the list of things i want to do
