The Tremendous Virtue of Reciting Surah al-Kahf on Friday: A Light in This World and Protection from the Dajjal! Shaykh Sulayman Ar-Ruhayli

Shaykh Sulayman Ar-Ruhayli, may Allah preserve him, said: O believing man and woman, if you want your day to be blessed, and to be energetic and have an expanded chest throughout your day, then be keen to: pray at the end of the night and offer witr prayer; recite your portion of the Qur’an before or after Fajr; pray the Sunnah of Fajr; pray the Fajr prayer on time – and in congregation if you are a man; say after Fajr one hundred times: “Lā ilāha illa Allāh, waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, lahu al-mulku wa lahu al-ḥamd, yuḥyī wa yumīt, biyadihi al-khayr, wa huwa ʿalā kulli shay’in qadīr” (There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, alone with no partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise. He gives life and causes death. In His Hand is all good, and He is capable of all things); and give charity at the start of your day, even if it is little. https://t.me/PearlsofRuhayli

Shaykh Sulayman Ar-Ruhayli, may Allah preserve him, said: السعة في البيوت وكثرة أهلها وكثرة الخير فيها وتحصينها منوطة بكثرة قراءة القرآن فيها وقيام أهلها بصلة الرحم Spaciousness in homes, abundance of their inhabitants, increase in goodness within them, and their protection are all linked to the frequent recitation of the Qur’an in them and the family’s observance of the ties of kinship. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Indeed, the quickest act of obedience to receive reward is maintaining the ties of kinship. So much so that a household may be wicked, yet their wealth increases and their numbers grow if they maintain ties.” That is if they are wicked—then how about if they are righteous? وقال أبوهريرة رضي الله عنه : “ إن البيت ليتسع على أهلهِ وتحضره الملائكة وتهجره الشياطين ويكثر خيره أن يُقرأ فيه القرآن، وإن البيت ليضيق على أهله وتهجره الملائكة، وتحضره الشياطين، ويقل خيره أن لا يقرأ فيه القرآن “ And Abū Hurayrah – may Allah be pleased with him – said: “Indeed, the house becomes spacious for its people, the angels attend it, the devils abandon it, and its goodness increases when the Qur’an is recited in it. And indeed, the house becomes tight for its people, the angels leave it, the devils enter it, and its goodness diminishes when the Qur’an is not recited in it.” https://t.me/PearlsofRuhayli

And I don’t know: should I be amazed at his forbearance toward a small student of knowledge like me, or at his love for the truth and his return to what became clear to him of it? They say: “Shaykh Rabīʿ issued a fatwa permitting seeking assistance from disbelievers, which led to the killing of many Muslims and the destruction of Iraq and Afghanistan.” And I say: Shaykh Rabīʿ—along with our senior scholars—issued a fatwa permitting seeking assistance from the disbelievers when Saddam Hussein acted tyrannically and refused to heed the voice of justice and wisdom, and invaded the beloved country of Kuwait. What befell its people occurred. Our rulers and scholars—including Shaykh Rabīʿ—took an honourable stance in aiding our brothers. The occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan and what occurred there was not a consequence of that honourable, legitimate fatwa and has no relation to it. And in conclusion, I invite everyone to listen to the noble speech of my brother Shaykh Dughsh al-ʿAjmī titled “Shaykh Rabīʿ as I Knew Him.” https://t.me/PearlsofRuhayli

Shaykh Sulayman Ar-Ruhayli, may Allah preserve him, said: The slanderers say: “Shaykh Rabīʿ—may Allah have mercy on him—commands with absolute obedience to the rulers and almost deifies them.” And I say: By Allah, the One besides Whom there is no deity worthy of worship, the Shaykh never went beyond the statement of the Prophet ﷺ: “It is obligatory upon a Muslim man to hear and obey in what he likes and dislikes, so long as he is not commanded with disobedience. But if he is commanded with disobedience, then there is no hearing and no obedience.” And they say: “The Shaykh permits the rulers to commit major sins.” And I say: By Allah, he never permitted that—ever. Rather, the Khawārij want to make the committing of major sins an act of disbelief for the rulers, so whoever does not permit rebellion against the ruler for committing a major sin, they accuse him of permitting major sins. And the Shaykh would advise the rulers, and he never entered upon a ruler except as a sincere adviser. Once, he advised the former governor of Medina, His Highness Prince Fayṣal ibn Salmān, in a matter he saw. He would advise with passion for the religion of Allah in what he viewed, and the Prince—may Allah protect him—would respond with appreciation and a smile that never left his face. And I do not know: should I be amazed at the Shaykh’s zeal for the religion of Allah, or at the forbearance and appreciation of His Highness the Prince? And they say: “He is a scholar of the rulers, who sold his religion for worldly gain.” And I say: By Allah, the Shaykh never gained anything of this worldly life as a result of his positions. He was among the most ascetic of people concerning the world. They say: “Shaykh Rabīʿ—may Allah have mercy on him—praised the Jews.” And I say: By Allah, the Shaykh never praised the Jews—ever. Rather, he condemns them and supplicates against them. And I ask Allah to take revenge on the one who fabricated and edited the clip. They say: “Shaykh Rabīʿ is hasty in his criticism and does not weigh between benefits and harms.” And I say: By Allah, the Shaykh is among the most cautious people in considering the bringing of benefits and repelling of harms, and among the most patient people. A person—whom he named—once said to me: “He was patient with him for over fifteen years. I was aware of his errors and would correspond with him, and I never released even a single word until he insisted persistently upon his errors.” Despite that, when that person died, the Shaykh called his children and gave them condolences. They say: “The followers of Shaykh Rabīʿ venerate him, accept everything he says without discussion, and never disagree with him in anything.” And I say: Firstly, Shaykh Rabīʿ has no “followers,” and he himself detests that and cultivates his students upon the opposite of it. Rather, they are students of knowledge who know his virtue and benefit from his knowledge. Secondly, all those of standing who acknowledge Shaykh Rabīʿ’s virtue say: “Shaykh Rabīʿ is correct at times and errs at times.” And they leave what they view to be errors, while still knowing his virtue and preserving his status. And this is not exclusive to Shaykh Rabīʿ, but rather applies to every imam after the Prophet ﷺ. Thirdly, the Shaykh’s students sometimes disagree with him and discuss matters with him. In fact, he—may Allah have mercy on him—used to request discussion. I recall one private gathering that brought me together with the Shaykh and Shaykh Ṣāliḥ al-Suḥaymī (may Allah preserve him)—one of the last gatherings we had. The Shaykh mentioned something, and I discussed it with him. And I am nothing in front of his knowledge and virtue, yet he debated with me as an equal, out of humility. When I said, “O Shaykh, I am a student of knowledge and understand according to what Allah has provided me,” he replied, “Rather, you are a scholar.” Then, after a discussion that lasted around an hour, the Shaykh retracted something to what I had said. https://t.me/PearlsofRuhayli

Shaykh Sulayman Ar-Ruhayli, may Allah preserve him, said: قال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: (إن الله لا يقبض العلم انتزاعاً ينتزعه من العباد، ولكن يقبض العلم بقبض العلماء، حتى إذا لم يُبق عالماً اتخذ الناس رؤوساً جهالاً، فسُئلوا فأفتوا بغير علم، فضلوا وأضلوا) The Prophet ﷺ said: “Indeed, Allah does not take away knowledge by snatching it away from the servants, but He takes away knowledge by taking the scholars [in death], until when no scholar remains, the people take ignorant ones as their leaders, and they are asked, so they give fatwas without knowledge, thus they go astray and lead others astray.” And we have seen the first part, for we have lost many of our firm scholars. - أسأل الله أن يرحمهم، وأن يبارك في البقية الباقية، وأن يُخرج من طلاب العلم السلفيين علماء يكونون أمنةً للأمة - – I ask Allah to have mercy on them, to bless the remaining ones, and to bring forth from the Salafi students of knowledge scholars who will be a protection for the ummah – وإنا والله مما نراه ونسمعه ونقرؤه في الساحة العلمية نخشى الثانية. And indeed, by Allah, from what we see, hear, and read in the field of knowledge, we fear the second part. O Allah, grant us safety from that which we fear, and protect the ummah from the evil of the envious, trial-causing ones whose only concern is to bring down those whom the people have turned to—those known for the Salafi methodology—and they falsely and slanderously claim that the scholars have warned against them, while in reality what drives them is envy and the pursuit of fitnah. O students of knowledge, turn towards those who have stood for teaching, and are known for knowledge, tawḥīd, the Sunnah, and the methodology of the Salaf, and turn away from the envious, trial-causing bandits, and stick to the scholars who are known among Ahl al-Sunnah, and know that not everything that shines in the sky is a star to be guided by. https://t.me/PearlsofRuhayli

Shaykh Sulayman Ar-Ruhayli, may Allah preserve him, said: يا أهل السنة، هاأنتم ترون كثرة موت العلماء رحمهم الله أجمعين، وفي موتهم عبرة، O Ahl al-Sunnah, here you are witnessing the many deaths of the scholars – may Allah have mercy on them all – and in their death is a lesson, So fear Allah regarding your scholars, seek forgiveness for those who have died from among them, and do not forget them, And supplicate for the living among them, and benefit from them, And attend their gatherings, and spread their good qualities, And spread the knowledge of the deceased and the living among them, For by Allah, their knowledge is like rainfall – pure, it brings forth good and crushes evil. https://t.me/PearlsofRuhayli
