A Coast Guard aviation mechanic was confined to quarters yesterday afternoon after the C-37A (similar to a Gulfstream executive jet) he’d inspected earlier in the day had an engine flameout while flying from Columbus, Georgia, to Washington, D.C. Already approaching Washington, the pilots declared an emergency and landed safely at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. None of the plane’s 14 passengers, which included DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin and other DHS officials, suffered injuries.
The 22-year-old dual-engine plane last had its engines overhauled in 2024 and was certified “airworthy,” a DHS source familiar with the incident told Real Raw News.
Approximately 90 minutes prior to takeoff, an aviation maintenance technician (AMT) performed a routine check of the plane’s exterior and engine intakes.
This surface-level inspection ensures the plane is free of foreign debris that could endanger an airborne aircraft or impede rotation. In commercial aviation, the pilot or co-pilot conducts that task before leaving the gate. It’s presently unclear if the C-37A’s aircrew completed a walkaround.
According to our source, a Coast Guard AMT assigned to Lawson Army Airfield, the C37’s departure point, was relieved of duty and placed on barracks restrictions based on evidence proving he despised Secretary Mullins and, therefore, could’ve sabotaged the flight.
“Yesterday evening, or late afternoon, a different technician who knows him—and I can’t give out names right now—told his commander and the DHS hotline the guy hates Sec. Mullin ‘cause he thinks Mullin is a racist. Mullin, as everyone’s aware, is Native American and a member of the Cherokee Nation, and the confined AMT, well, he’s Hispanic, and I guess he knows some people who’ve been deported,” our source said.
Moreover, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) unearthed social media posts the AMT had published to X and Bluesky following Mullin’s Senate Confirmation on March 23. In them, he wrote an unflattering screed about Mullin and said that “I wouldn’t shed a tear if he has an accident.” In another post, the AMT is seen wearing an “Obama 2028” T-shirt.
As of this writing, the AMT has not been charged criminally. HSI agents and the Coast Guard Investigative Service (CGIS) are expected to “interview” the AMT today or tomorrow, our source said. | 1 161 |
