♦️ U.S. inflation fell more than expected — Bitcoin climbed to $65,000
On July 14, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics released June CPI data: headline inflation came in at 3.5% year-over-year against a 3.8% consensus, and core CPI came in at 2.6%. The CPI declined 0.4% month-over-month. Bitcoin moved from $62,900 to $64,832 within 30 minutes of the release. On July 15, after the release of similarly soft PPI reading, BTC broke above $65,000 as Federal Reserve rate-hike odds collapsed to 13%.
♦️ CLARITY Act hearing held in New York — Senate vote still missing
On July 17, the House Financial Services Committee held a field hearing at Federal Hall in New York. The session brought financial industry witnesses before lawmakers to apply pressure on the Senate ahead of the August 7 recess. The bill passed the House 294–134 and cleared the Senate Banking Committee in May. A Senate floor vote still requires 60 cloture votes — at least seven Democratic senators would need to support the bill. Polymarket places 2026 passage odds at around 43–46%.
♦️ U.S. regulators miss the GENIUS Act stablecoin deadline — July 18 passed without final rules
July 18 marked the one-year statutory deadline for six federal agencies — the Fed, OCC, FDIC, NCUA, Treasury, and FinCEN — to publish final implementing rules under the GENIUS Act, the U.S. stablecoin law signed in July 2025. None of the agencies delivered a complete final framework by the deadline. The law itself remains in force, with its provision taking effect on the earlier of January 18, 2027, or 120 days after the final rules are published.
♦️ Bitcoin ETFs end an 8-week outflow streak — institutional inflows return
For the week ending July 10, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $197 million in net inflows — ending eight consecutive weeks of net outflows. BlackRock's IBIT led with $292 million in weekly inflows. Ethereum ETFs also returned to positive territory, posting $84.4 million in weekly net inflows. By July 17, daily Bitcoin ETF inflows reached $132.3 million, with the seven-day rolling total at $70.6 million.
♦️ Morgan Stanley buys nearly 1,000 BTC during the dip — holdings exceed 5,700 BTC
Over a two-week period, Morgan Stanley accumulated approximately 1,000 BTC while Bitcoin traded below $60,000, bringing its total holdings to more than 5,700 BTC. The purchases coincided with the reversal in ETF inflows and Bitcoin's subsequent recovery to $65,000. Separately, Ark Invest said it’s analysis suggests that Bitcoin has reached a cycle low.

Over the week of July 6–12, Bitcoin gained approximately 10%, recovering from its July 1 low of $58,250 to around $64,000. The move was driven by a reversal in Bitcoin ETF inflows, weaker U.S. employment data that reduced near-term rate-hike expectations, and a short squeeze that cleared over $1 billion in leveraged bearish positions. The Fear and Greed Index began recovering from 17, though it remained in Extreme Fear territory.
♦️ Vitalik Buterin unveils Ethereum's biggest rebuild since the Merge
On July 4–6, Buterin published an updated "Lean Ethereum" roadmap — a phased overhaul of nearly every layer of the protocol over three to four years. The three headline priorities are:

✔️ native transaction privacy built into the protocol
✔️ scalability through recursive STARK proofs
♦️ German banks open crypto trading to 80 million retail customers

On July 6, Strategy disclosed that it sold 3,588 BTC between June 29 and July 5 at an average price of approximately $60,000 per coin. The company recorded an $8.31 billion unrealized loss on its digital asset holdings for Q2 2026. Bitcoin dropped approximately $1,000 following the filing.

On July 7, SpaceX was added to the Nasdaq-100 index, triggering an estimated $4.3 billion in passive fund buying. The company's shares trade simultaneously on Nasdaq, as tokenized equity on Solana, and as perpetual futures across crypto exchanges. SpaceX holds 18,712 BTC on its balance sheet.

On July 2, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $221.7 million in net inflows — the largest single-session intake in two months — ending a 10-day, $2.7 billion outflow streak. The catalyst was a weaker-than-expected June jobs report: only 57,000 non-farm payrolls were added versus the 110,000 consensus forecast, reducing near-term Federal Reserve rate-hike pressure. Bitcoin climbed above $63,000 on July 4, its highest level in over a month.
♦️ CLARITY Act misses July 4 deadline — U.S. crypto regulation delayed
The White House had initially targeted July 4 for a Senate vote on the CLARITY Act, the landmark U.S. crypto market structure bill. The Senate adjourned without completing the vote. The bill seeks to establish regulatory boundaries for digital assets and divide oversight between the SEC and the CFTC. A special field hearing is scheduled for July 17 in New York. The chances of the bill passing in 2026 are currently 48% on Polymarket.
♦️ Strategy pauses Bitcoin purchases and announces a $2B buyback program
Strategy made no Bitcoin acquisitions during the week of June 22–28, its first pause in several months. The company raised its U.S. dollar reserve to $2.55 billion and announced a $2 billion repurchase program covering common stock and digital credit securities. Under its new capital framework, the reserve must cover at least 12 months of expected preferred stock dividend payments and interest obligations.
♦️ Bitcoin price starts the week with a 21-month low of $58,188
On July 1, BTC fell to $58,188 — its lowest level since October 2024. The decline followed June's record ETF outflows of $4.06 billion, a PCE inflation reading of 4.1% year-on-year, and a hawkish Federal Reserve stance. Ethereum closed three consecutive quarters in negative territory for the first time in its history, with losses of 28%, 29%, and 25% respectively.
