Prophet Yusuf begs Allah to die as a Muslim Allah tells about Yusuf's invocation: رَبِّ قَدْ اتَيْتَنِي مِنَ الْمُلْكِ وَعَلَّمْتَنِي مِن تَأْوِيلِ الَاحَادِيثِ فَاطِرَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالَارْضِ أَنتَ وَلِيِّي فِي الدُّنُيَا وَالاخِرَةِ تَوَفَّنِي مُسْلِمًا وَأَلْحِقْنِي بِالصَّالِحِينَ "My Lord! You have indeed bestowed on me of the sovereignty, and taught me something of the interpretation of dreams - the (Only) Creator of the heavens and the earth! You are my Wali in this world and in the Hereafter. Cause me to die as a Muslim, and join me with the righteous." This is the invocation of Yusuf, the truthful one, to his Lord the Exalted and Most Honored. He invoked Allah after His favor was complete on him by being reunited with his parents and brothers, after He had bestowed on him Prophethood and kingship. He begged his Lord the Exalted and Ever High, that as He has perfected His bounty on him in this life, to continue it until the Hereafter. He begged Him that, when he dies, he dies as a Muslim, as Ad-Dahhak said, and to join him with the ranks of the righteous, with his brethren the Prophets and Messengers, may Allah's peace and blessings be on them all. It is possible that Yusuf, peace be upon him, said this supplication while dying. In the Two Sahihs it is recorded that A'ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, said that while dying, the Messenger of Allah was raising his finger and said - thrice, اللَّهُمَّ فِي الرَّفِيقِ الاَْعْلَى O Allah to Ar-Rafiq Al-A`la (the uppermost, highest company in heaven). It is also possible that long before he died, Yusuf begged Allah to die as a Muslim and be joined with the ranks of the righteous. بســـم اللــه الرحــمــن الـرحـــيــم The Origin is to Travel to Seek Knowledge Answered by our Shaykh, the 'Allaamah, the Sincere Advisor, Abu 'Abdirrahman Yahya bin 'Ali Al-Hajoori حفظه الله Question: Oh shaykh, what do you advise some of the youth, those that are amongst us, that if a student of knowledge comes to them from a markaz from the maraakiz of ahlus sunnah to open up lessons for them in some of the islamic sciences from aqeedah or fiqh or grammar, there you have them being lazy in attending and seeking knowledge? Answer: First of all: we advise to travel in order to seek knowledge, the majority of the cases the one who remains in the place of his residency will become busied, and travelling to seek knowledge is an affair of those that preceeded us (from the Salaf), and Al-Khateeb has written a independent treatise in regards to that. ﴿فَلَوْلا نَفَرَ مِنْ كُلِّ فِرْقَةٍ مِنْهُمْ طَائِفَةٌ لِيَتَفَقَّهُوا فِي الدِّينِ﴾ "...Of every troop of them, a party only should go forth, that they (who are left behind) may get instructions in (Islamic) religion, and that they may warn their people when they return to them, so that they may beware." [At-Tawbah:122] And Musa travelled to the junction of the 2 seas in order to meet Khadr to take some knowledge from him. This is the one, in most cases, who will dedicate himself and will not come except for that (to seek knowledge). So if he is not able to do that then attend (lessons) with a Sunni who is in his place of residency who Allaah has given tawfeeq to. And if Allaah provides for people one who is successful then verily they will be successful. So if Allaah provides for them a Sunni who is beneficial and is upon the truth, then he is like rain in that place, and beware, beware of attending the sittings of the people of desires, for verily they bring to the people doubts and wicked actions. Imam Fudayl ibn Iyad رحمه الله said : Admiration is part of faith and envy is part of hypocrisy. The believer admires others and does not envy others, and the hypocrite envies others and does not admire others. The believer overlooks the faults of others, admonishes others, and gives good advice. The hypocrite disgraces others (seeks and exposes faults), insults others, and betrays others. Rectify Your Heart First! The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said: "Allah does not look at your (outward) appearance and your wealth, rather He looks at your hearts and your deeds." [Sahih Muslim 2564] Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen رحمه الله said: "A person must rectify their heart before rectifying their physical appearance, since people look at each other’s appearance, whereas Allāh looks at the heart." Luq'mān عليه السلام said to his son: "O' my beloved son, I have never regretted keeping silent.
