Question: “Among them is what Abu Bakr Muhammad bin Ahmad bin Balwayh narrated to us: Abdullah bin Ahmad bin Hanbal told us—my father told me—Hajjaj bin Muhammad told us—Shu'bah told us—from Abu Hamzah, who said: I heard Humayd bin Hilal narrate from Abdullah bin Mutarrif from Abu Barzah al-Aslami, who said: "The most hated tribes to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) were Banu Umayyah, Banu Hanifah, and Thaqif." This is an authentic hadith according to the criteria of al-Bukhari and Muslim, but they did not include it in their collections. Is this hadith authentic? Answer: Praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family, and his companions. The mentioned hadith was recorded by Al-Hakim in Al-Mustadrak under the Book of Trials (Kitab al-Malahim), where he stated: "This is an authentic hadith according to the criteria of al-Bukhari and Muslim, but they did not include it." This hadith was narrated by Ahmad and Abu Ya‘la, with the addition: "Banu Umayyah, Thaqif, and Banu Hanifah." It was also narrated by Al-Tabarani.
