A scam call from "Google" can come with real Google emails to back it up.
In August, a member of our team got a call from a California number. The caller said there'd been an attempt to change the recovery email on our colleague's Gmail, and pointed to a security email in the inbox as proof. That email was real. The scammer had triggered it himself.

On Friday, October 2, 2026, an issue with Apple's developer program caused Proton Mail for Mac and Proton Meet for Mac to stop opening on macOS for some users. macOS also incorrectly flagged them as malware in some cases. You are receiving this email because you installed one or both of these apps.
Your data and accounts are safe. The apps were not compromised, and the malware warning was a false positive. While we continue to work with Apple to resolve the situation, we have also released new versions of the apps to work around the problem for affected users. If you find that either Proton Mail for Mac or Proton Meet for Mac fail to open, you may need to download and install the app again from the links below.

Hey everyone,
Some users on MacOS may be seeing errors stating that our Proton Mail & Proton Meet apps are qualified as malware. This is an error, there is no actual malware threat, and we're working together with Apple to restore functionality for our MacOS users.
For context, earlier today one of our developer accounts with Apple was revoked for unknown reasons, causing previously legitimate apps to be blocked at the operating system level on MacOS. In the meantime, we recommend using the webapps.
Apologies for the disruptions caused by this, the team is working on fixing this asap and we will communicate further once we have more information. Please check the status.proton.me for updates.

Admin has been task with pulling together all the best tips for how to set up GrapheneOS, to see if there's enough in it for a video.
Here's the early work:
- PIN needs to be strong min 12-char if using numerical but you can do even better
- Do not use biometrics as in some places you can be compelled to unlock
- Duress PIN
- Auto shutdown after incorrect PIN tries (maybe 3)
- Auto reboot to put it into BFU mode after a certain number of hours of no use
- Make a call on Play Services and stick by it, if you are using PS...
- Create a profile under Owner which has it and don't put it elsewhere
- Create a separate profile with location services allowed and don't use it elsewhere
- Scramble your PIN

There is a better way. Pick a login, card, or note, hit share, and get a link that works for anyone, even if they've never heard of Proton. You decide how long it lives, from an hour to 30 days, and you can cap how many times it can be opened. Delete it whenever you like.
The link is built on your device, and the key that unlocks it never gets sent to our servers, so we can't read what you shared.
There's no account for them to make, no screenshot sitting in someone's camera roll, and no password hanging around in a group chat until the end of time.

People don’t trust AI, but they tell it everything

People discuss their most private thoughts with AI chatbots. But their revelations to the apps doesn’t mean they trust the Big Tech companies behind them, according to new research from Proton.
Roughly two-thirds of AI chatbot users have discussed at least one sensitive topic. But at the same time, fewer than one in five say they have a high level of trust in AI companies to protect their private information.
“AI is learning far more about us than a search engine ever could. Search knows what you looked for. AI gets the hesitation, the follow-up questions, and the personal context between the lines,” said Eamonn Maguire, director of AI engineering at Proton. “We’re handing over more than questions now. And when technology knows that much about us, privacy can’t be an afterthought.”
