Ode and Frens

Ima talk bread and circuses for a moment. As everyone knows, my hubby is Scottish, he grew up in Scotland and is Scottish as can be considering. I don’t prescribe to the sports world anymore because it’s all fake and ghey. He is a major futbol fan (god forbid we call it soccer). Anywho, he told me I had to sit and watch two games in the beginning. The first Scotland. The second the USA match, both in the group stages. While watching the Scotland match, he started showing me the videos coming out of Boston of the Tartan Army and their fun. I was amused. Then we watched the USA match. There is something about a crowd of 90k people singing the national anthem with their chests, that makes me proud to be American. So here I sit, in the knockout stages having watched another soccer match and another singing of the anthem.. we won again. People say we could possibly go to the final. While subconsciously I know it’s all a fkin distraction, it’s nice to be excited about something in our country again. I will always love America, the good, the bad and the ugly. But I had lost my enthusiasm to display my joy of being American. In reality, it’s hard to show appreciation for the country I fight for, when everything we see, hear, interact with all is shit. So to conclude this pointless monologue, my point is, the World Cup has become a bright spot in my week. I spend it with my hubby and daughter and we actually have fun hoping USA continues its win. Sometimes it’s not about sitting in anger and ignoring the things we once found fun to justify our anger. Sometimes it’s about living in the moment and creating memories with the people you love. You don’t get that time back.
