Robakidze left an indelible mark on Georgian literature and culture. In 1917, he took part in founding the Writers’ Union.
After the Red Russia’s annexation of Georgia in 1921, Grigol Robakidze became involved in the national liberation movement, for which he was later persecuted by the Bolshevik regime. The works of the “fascist” writer were banned in the Soviet Union.
Robakidze enjoyed great respect among Georgian émigrés, and no national issue escaped his attention. He made a significant contribution to the strengthening of Georgian-German relations. During the war, Grigol Robakidze showed deep care for Georgian legionnaires of the Wehrmacht and took an active part in their lives.
