We’re defending Rivers against predators – Fubara. Rivers governor Siminalayi Fubara has said that he was not fighting anybody. “I am, rather, defending the state against predators; I am protecting Rivers against those who feel that they own the life of others,” he said in Port Harcourt on Wednesday when the Senate Committee on Privatisation and Commercialisation, paid him a courtesy visit. Fubara stated that the failed attempt to detonate an explosive device at the Hotel Presidential in Port Harcourt was a deliberate ploy to strengthen the call for a state of emergency.

Former Konga CEO, Nick Imudia commits suicide. Nick Imudia, former Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian e-commerce giant Konga, has died by suicide on Tuesday, June 25. Imudia, who was serving as the CEO of D.light, a leading residential solar energy solutions company, reportedly took his life in his Lekki, Lagos apartment. According to reports, Imudia jumped from the balcony of his apartment late Tuesday night.

Explosion aimed at staging insecurity for emergency rule in Rivers – Fubara. Fubara accuses Pro-Wike protesters of attempts to bomb hotel. Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminialayi Fubara, has stated that the target of those who detonated the explosive around the Hotel Presidential during the protest by loyalists of the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, was to create the impression of heightened insecurity in the State. The governor noted that the act was deliberate knowing that the Senate Committee on Privatisation and Commercialisation, led by its Chairman, Senator Orji Uzo Kalu, was in Port Harcourt to meet with the state government.

Inflation: CBN ‘ll adhere to conventional mandate – Cardoso. The governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Olayemi Cardoso, says he is optimistic that the decisions of the bank’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) would tame inflation in the country. He noted a deceleration in the month-on-month inflation rates, highlighting it as a positive development. 

65% of Nigerians Depend On Agriculture - NBS. It was revealed that there are about 40.2 million agricultural households in Nigeria, of which about 91 per cent of agricultural households practise crop cultivation, 48 per cent practise livestock farming and five per cent engage in fishery. Speaking at the launch, the Minister of State, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi said: "Food security and economic growth are the top priority. We are indeed very blessed; and this new data will show us how to eliminate ghost farmers."

Tinubu to consult further on new minimum wage. President Bola Tinubu will consult further before arriving at a final decision on the new national minimum wage for Nigerian workers. Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, said this at the end of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja on Tuesday. He said the report of the tripartite committee on the new wage was presented and deliberated on at the FEC meeting, but was stepped down to enable the President consult further.

We’re happy in Anambra, not interested in Orlu State – Orumba people. ENUGU -ORUMBA indigenes, comprising of people from Orumba North and South Council Areas of Anambra state, have disassociated themselves from the proposed Orlu State currently before the House of Representatives. The people said they are happy and comfortable being and remaining in Anambra State as presently constituted.

Court slates July 5 to hear suit seeking to remove Ganduje as APC Chairman. The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Wednesday, deferred hearing a suit seeking to remove the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Ganduje, from office until July 5. The court, presided over by Justice Inyang Ekwo, adjourned to allow the litigants to respond to a counter-affidavit the embattled APC Chairman filed to challenge the competence of the suit.

Fire outbreak at Dangote refinery. There was a fire outbreak on Wednesday at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in the Lekki Free Zone, Lagos. Reacting to the incident, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of Dangote Group, Anthony Chiejina, disclosed in a statement sent that the fire has been contained and there is no cause for alarm.

We’ll pay salary arrears in tranches — Abia govt. The Abia government has said it would pay salary arrears owed workers in the state civil service in tranches. The Commissioner for Finance, Mr Mike Akpara, made this known on Tuesday during a press conference in Umuahia. According to him, the present administration inherited a debt of N16.5 billion in salary arrears owed workers in state-owned institutions of learning.
