“Netanyahu wants to come here and pretend he’s Winston Churchill — and he is no Winston Churchill" US Senator Chris Van Hollen, a prominent American lawmaker and member of the chamber’s foreign relations committee, has criticised the House and Senate leadership’s decision to invite Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to give an address to Congress. Speaking with Bloomberg, Van Hollen said that Netanyahu giving an address to Congress risks signalling that Washington is endorsing his war strategy in Gaza, which has killed tens of thousands of Palestinians so far. The address could also send a message to Netanyahu that he can continue to avoid the repeated demands by Democrats for Israel’s military to do more to protect civilian life in Gaza. 🔗 Tap the link to read more https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/prominent-us-senator-says-netanyahu-invitation-mistake?utm_source=telegram&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=social_traffic

🎥 Sudan’s ambassador to the United Nations, Al-Harith Idriss, issued a scathing critique of the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday, condemning it for supporting and arming the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia amid the war in Sudan. The war in Sudan has been ongoing for more than nine months. According to the UN, the conflict has displaced 7.3 million people and killed more than 12,000. The UAE has previously denied “supplying weapons or ammunition to any of the warring factions in Sudan”. However, Sudanese and western officials, diplomats, local activists and human rights lawyers believe the UAE is providing significant support to the RSF. Cameron Hudson, a former CIA analyst and senior associate at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies Africa Program, told Middle East Eye: “I think what is coming from the UAE is very substantial. It has kept them in the fight, and it has allowed them to sustain this fight with no end in sight"

Khaled Mhajne, a lawyer who was able to meet Palestinian prisoners in the now-infamous Sde Teiman Israeli detention camp, described what he called a "criminal" situation "beyond imagination". Mhajne told Al Araby Al Jadeed that over 1,000 Palestinians from Gaza are being held in Sde Teiman. "They sleep on the ground without blankets and pillows, and the Israeli forces deal with them in a criminal manner," he said. Mhajne met with detained journalist Mohammad Arab, who has been "isolated from the world for months". Detainees are not allowed to speak to each other, and each one of them is given a singular minute to shower, and is penalised if they take longer, the lawyer said. He also said that "there are cases of rape and sexual abuse against Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons". "The war being waged against Palestinian prisoners, especially against the prisoners from the Gaza Strip, is a war no less criminal than what the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are experiencing," he added.
