投资、贸易及工业部长东姑扎夫鲁表示，马来西亚政府正为电子与电气（E&E）领域可能面临的冲击做好准备。随着美国审查半导体进口政策，若最终决定征收更高关税，恐怕将危及多达10万个就业机会，尤其集中在槟城与吉打两州。
虽然半导体产品暂时被排除在即将于2025年8月8日生效的19%反制关税清单之外，但美国商务部目前仍根据【1962年贸易扩展法案】第232条款，对相关产品展开调查。一旦调查结果不利，马来西亚半导体产业恐将首当其冲。
KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 4): The Malaysian government is bracing for potential disruptions in the electrical and electronics (E&E) sector as the US reviews its trade policy on semiconductor imports, raising concerns that higher tariffs could jeopardise up to 100,000 jobs, particularly in Penang and Kedah.
Semiconductor products are currently exempted from the 19% reciprocal tariff imposed on goods from Malaysia come Aug 8, 2025 but remain under investigation by the US Department of Commerce under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act 1962.
Tim Cook said that the AI revolution is “as big or bigger” as the internet, smartphones, cloud computing and apps. “Apple must do this. Apple will do this. This is sort of ours to grab,” Cook told employees, according to people aware of the meeting. “We will make the investment to do it.”
