| 2 | A man becomes entirely human when he comes to self-awareness and independence of mind, when he becomes the complete master and commander of his own ideas and deeds and holds certain ideas not because others have given these to him, but because he himself finds them to be true. A man, when he becomes a Christian, still remains a man, and therefore in his Christianity he must also be rational, only this rationality he should turn to the profit of the Holy Faith. Let him become rationally convinced that the Holy Faith which he confesses is the only faithful path of salvation, and that all other paths which are not in agreement with it lead to perdition. It is no honor to a man to be a blind confessor; he must be a conscious confessor, so that acting in this way, he acts as he should.

| 10 |  "The ideal of Orthodoxy is not progress but Transfiguration. The New Testament speaks of the transfiguration of human nature. Christ spoke to Nicodemus of a new birth. According to the words of the Apostle Paul, whoever is in Christ is a new creation (2 Cor. 5:17).
Human beings are to bear the image of the heavenly Adam (1 Cor. 15:49).
From glory to glory they are being transfigured by the Spirit of the Lord (2 Cor. 3:18).
In the words of the Apostle Peter, a new heaven and a new earth are to come (2 Pet. 3:13).
The process of transfiguration of the nature of humankind and earthly creatures will unfold immutably and continuously, until He who sits on the throne says: Behold, I make all things new. It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega (Revelation 21:5-6)."

| 19 | Concerning the Panagia – Most Holy Theotokos
Saint Nikodemos the Hagiorite says that because our Panagia had no high opinion of Herself, She never sinned! This is magnificent! Why? Because She had perfect self-knowledge.
You see, when the Archangel Gabriel visited Her and told Her, "you will give birth to the Savior of the world," She did not become conceited. She did not say, "well, I am important, there is no one else like me." She wondered! "How is this possible for me?"...
And when he explained to Her that the Holy Spirit would come and it would happen that way, She glorified God who looked upon, She says, "the humility of His maidservant";
"He looked upon me, who am nothing, a zero."
She had this perfect knowledge of Herself, that She is nothing, a zero! And precisely because She held this view that She is a zero, a piece of nothing, that is why She never sinned.
The more a person holds a high opinion of themselves, the more they sin. The higher their opinion, the more they sin and the more they suffer; they are crushed by sin. The lesser opinion they hold, the less they sin, the less they suffer, the less they are crushed, and thus, the smaller their falls are.
And when one reaches the point of having a zero opinion of oneself, then they experience no crushing and no fall. This is what the Fathers mean when they say that "pride precedes a fall." Pride always comes before every fall.
