Viktoria Steinfeld's emotions to German Championship I’m still having hard time finding right words to describe this weekend... I won first qualifier (for Wch) and knew I had good chance. That made pressure at German Championships even higher. AA was crucial, because it determined who would be nominated for World Championships. I knew everything had to be perfect now. But that very pressure proved too much. My nerves got the better of me, and I couldn’t perform to my full potential - especially when it mattered most. Next morning, just a few hours before apparatus finals, we found out nominations. Hearing that I hadn’t made it on home World Championships, even though I was so close, was one of the hardest moments of my career so far. I was disappointed, and right before competition I didn’t even know how I was supposed to step onto carpet. But at some point, I had to make decision. Give up, or give it my all one more time… With the support of my coaches, my family, my friends, and audience, I pulled myself together. Suddenly, pressure was gone. It wasn’t about nomination anymore, but simply about enjoying sport I love.❣️ Atmosphere in arena was incredible. Despite two small mistakes, all I could think was: I hope this is enough for medal. And even if it wasn’t, I was just proud to have found strength to stand there once again. When scores were announced in K&C area and I realized I’d won gold, I couldn’t hold back my tears. This competition showed me how close success and disappointment really are. I’m taking away so many experiences from this, even if it’ll take time to process it all.
