Kano State Censorship Board bans ‘after-party’ and ‘hot challenge’ activities at weddings and other social events. The Kano State Censorship Board has ordered an immediate halt to "after-party" and "hot challenge" activities during wedding ceremonies and other social gatherings across the state. The Executive Secretary of the board, Abba El-Mustapha, announced the suspension in a statement issued by the board’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Sulaiman, on Saturday. According to the statement, the decision also became necessary as part of the board’s mandate to sanitise entertainment activities and ensure that public events are conducted in accordance with the state’s cultural and religious values. Officials described the practices as a growing Western cultural influence that conflicts with the state’s cultural, moral, and religious values, and warned that violators—including event centres, MCs, and planners—will face sanctions.

A 39-year-old man, Udeme Emmanuel Ekpeme, has been arrested by the Cross River State Police Command for allegedly impersonating a medical doctor and defrauding a woman of ₦500,000 under the guise of securing hospital jobs for her children. The suspect was apprehended by officers of the Uwanse Division in Calabar South Local Government Area following a petition filed by 45-year-old Mrs. Edemawan Samuel. She accused him of posing as a doctor and collecting the money with a promise to help her children gain employment at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH). According to the police, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect used the fake identity to win the victim’s trust before carrying out the fraud. Items connected to the case have been recovered, while the suspect remains in custody as investigations are ongoing.

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has resumed loading petrol in naira at its gantry, setting a new ex-depot price of N1,215 per litre after a week-long suspension that created uncertainty in the downstream sector. The new price reflects a N140 increase (about 13%) from the previous N1,075 per litre, largely driven by rising global crude oil prices. The surge in international benchmarks—Brent crude climbing to $93.90 per barrel and WTI to $86.65—has significantly raised production costs for refined products such as petrol, diesel, and aviation fuel. The price adjustment comes amid already rising domestic fuel costs, sparking concerns about another round of pump price hikes across the country. However, the refinery’s return to naira-based sales is expected to ease supply disruptions caused by the temporary halt in loading operations. Industry sources confirmed that marketers have been notified, with loading set to resume immediately under the revised pricing. During the suspension, many independent marketers had turned to private depots for supply. Dangote Refinery had earlier blamed the pause on challenges in sourcing crude oil under the Federal Government’s naira-for-crude policy, which led to a temporary shift to dollar-based sales. Despite the resumption, fuel prices continue to climb nationwide. Depot prices increased across key hubs such as Lagos, Port Harcourt, Warri, and Calabar, with some locations recording hikes of up to N87 per litre. In Lagos, Bulk Strategic Reserve raised its price to N1,350 per litre, while other depots like Matrix, Masters Energy, and Sigmund posted smaller increases. At the retail level, petrol prices have also surged, averaging about N1,350 per litre in Lagos and surrounding areas, further intensifying concerns over rising transportation, food, and business costs for Nigerians. The Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced three suspects to life imprisonment for their roles in the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. The convicts — Abdulrazak Umar (alias Abu Khalifa or Abu Khalid), Yunusa Musa (alias Yunusa Bin Musa), and Shamsu Adamu Sani (alias Abu Itisar) — were prosecuted by the Department of State Services (DSS) on a 10-count terr0rism charge. They pleaded guilty to key charges, including membership of the proscribed terr0rist group Darul Salam (an affiliate of the banned Ansaru faction, linked to Boko Haram splinter activities), and concealing vital information about the masterminds behind the k!dn@pping. Additional charges against Abdulrazak Umar and Shamsu Adamu Sani involved providing terr0rist training and instructions, as well as inciting members of a WhatsApp group named “The Oneness of Allah is the Foundation of Peace” to engage in acts of terr0rism. The sentences, handed down by Justice Salim Ibrahim, are to run from the date of the convicts’ arrest. The case stems from the May 2026 abduction of dozens of pupils and teachers from schools in communities such as Ahoro-Esiele, Yawota, and Alawusa in Oriire LGA.

Two Nigerians sentenced to 7 years imprisonment for armed robbery in Kuwait. Two Nigerian nationals have been sentenced to seven years in prison for armed robbery in Kuwait. The Kuwait General Department of Criminal Investigation in Ahmadi Governorate arrested the two individuals over alleged involvement in an armed robbery and theft of a currency exchange shop in Mahboula, in January 2025. The Court of Appeal on Monday, July 20, 2026 upheld the imprisonment of the defendants for seven years and six months in connection with the robbery and theft. The Second Circuit of the Court of Appeal, headed by Counselor Nasr Salem Al-Haid and comprising Counselors Mutaib Al-Aradhi and Saud Al-Sane, upheld the ruling against members of a Nigerian gang involved in the robbery and theft of the money exchange shop. The Public Prosecution had charged the first four defendants with stealing money from the exchange shop, with the second defendant using a fake gun.
