Without fancy animations, and a blown up not to scale moon orbit, the orbit of the moon is 13 deg per hour , the rotation speed is 0.549 deg per hour. i cannot verify if that is based from earth or space calculations. however, the moon is on a variable orbit, and more has to be considered. for simplifications lets use an hour hand on a watch and the end of the hour hand has a disk with two different halves(light/dark) the light side tho you want to face the inside of the watch , you love gears so why just paint the end of the hour hand? no fun right. essentially it would be a1:1 gear ratio with the disk rotating the opposite direction of the movement of the hour hand. hour hand 30 deg per hour, disk spin opposite way 30 deg per hour. Gearing Setup: Hour Hand Gear (Driving Gear): Rotates at 30 degrees per hour. End of Hour Hand Gear (Driven Gear): Needs to rotate at 30 degrees per hour in the opposite direction. Gear Ratio Calculation: The gear ratio is the ratio of the angular velocity of the driving gear (hour hand) to the driven gear (end of the hour hand).
