😳Trust Wallet reveals number of users affected by the $7M hack Trust Wallet CEO Eowyn Chen said that last week’s hack of the browser extension affected 2,596 wallets. However, the team received around 5,000 compensation claims, indicating a large number of fraudulent or duplicate requests. The developers previously acknowledged a vulnerability in version 2.68 of the browser wallet, released an update to version 2.69, and promised to compensate users for losses estimated at $7 million. According to Chen, the top priority is accurate verification of wallet owners so that compensation goes only to legitimate victims. Claim reviews are being conducted in parallel with the technical investigation.

🧑‍🎓 A member of the Zcash community has written a full academic-style paper titled “The Case for ZEC at $10,000”, arguing why ZEC could realistically reach $10,000 (currently around $530). The author highlights a key difference between Bitcoin and Zcash (both have a 21 million supply cap and use PoW): data privacy. While all Bitcoin transactions and balances are fully transparent, Zcash uses zk-SNARKs, which allow transaction validity to be verified without revealing the amount, sender, or recipient. Zcash offers a dual address model: Transparent addresses — for compatibility with exchanges and regulatory requirements Shielded addresses — for cases where privacy is needed This hybrid approach is presented as a practical compromise that allows Zcash to remain listed in jurisdictions where privacy-focused coins like Monero are often delisted.

🫡 A DDoS attack disrupted data collection during the Trust Wallet incident Blockchain security researchers discovered a tampered analytics script in the browser version of Trust Wallet that was sending user data to a third-party domain, metrics-trustwallet, disguised as official project infrastructure. The domain was registered shortly before the attack and was used to collect telemetry when pages loaded. Shortly after the scheme was uncovered, unknown users from a darknet forum launched a DDoS attack against the server, making it unavailable. As a result, data exfiltration was effectively stopped, significantly reducing the impact of the attack.
