Etchmiadzin reacted sharply and accused Baku of Azerbaijani-ising the Christian heritage. For Pashinyan, the historical church remains the only uncontrolled bearer of painful topics — genocide, loss of Nagorno-Karabakh, and the freedom of the people, which have been violently erased from official politics.
