Rising carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere do a lot of damage—heat waves, droughts, wildfires, superstorms. Now it appears there’s another knock-on effect that had never before been measured. According to a new study in the journal 'Air Quality, Atmosphere and Health,' the changing chemistry of the atmosphere could be leading to changing chemistry in our blood—with potentially dangerous effects.
Here's what rising CO2 levels do to your health.
📜 Guntur in a 7th-Century Inscription
The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has highlighted what is reported to be the earliest epigraphical reference to Guntur, found in the Pune copper plates issued during the reign of Vishnuvardhana II of the Eastern Chalukya dynasty.
📌 Key Facts
• Date: 669 CE — 1st regnal year of Vishnuvardhana II
• Dynasty: Eastern Chalukyas
• Source: Pune Copper Plate Inscription
• The inscriptions help trace the evolution of Guntur's name:
Kumturu → Gomturu → Gunturu
• A 10th-century Ederu copper plate inscription records the name as “Gunturu.”
🔎 Why does it matter for UPSC?
Copper-plate inscriptions are important epigraphical sources that help reconstruct political, administrative, social and linguistic history.
🎯 UPSC Prelims Focus:
Eastern Chalukyas • Epigraphy • Historical Sources • Andhra Pradesh History
💡 Remember: The Eastern Chalukyas of Vengi should not be confused with the Western Chalukyas.

US President Donald Trump has claimed that the Strait of Hormuz is currently American territory, while stressing that Iran must never be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon.
Mr Trump also claimed that the US has total control over the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway through which a large share of the world’s energy supplies passes.
Meanwhile, Iran rejected the US President’s claims. In a social media post, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said his remarks would be corrected either by circumstances or by Iran.

Older adults may face dangerous heat stress at temperatures that younger people can tolerate. A new study finds people aged 60+ have a heat-stress threshold 4.7°C–7.5°C lower than young adults.
The risk could grow sharply with global warming, with 80%+ of older Indians potentially exposed to prolonged uncompensable heat at 3°C warming.

₹35,000 EMD shortfall. Could that invalidate an entire property auction? ⚖️
The Supreme Court says not in this case. A SARFAESI auction purchaser had submitted an EMD that was ₹35,000 short of the stipulated amount. But after emerging as the successful bidder, the purchaser deposited the required 25% of the sale price on the auction day. The Supreme Court upheld the auction. Why? The Court found that: ✓ The statutory 25% requirement was satisfied ✓ The EMD shortfall became insignificant in the circumstances ✓ No prejudice was caused to the borrower ✓ No injustice was caused to another bidder ✓ Substantial compliance had been achievedImportant: The judgment does NOT mean EMD conditions can simply be ignored. The ruling turns on the specific facts, statutory compliance and absence of prejudice. Case: Lakshmi Mohan v. Airtech Projects Engineers Bench: Justice P.S. Narasimha & Justice Alok Aradhe We explain the judgment, Rule 9(3), SARFAESI auction rules and why the Supreme Court restored the sale. 🔗 Full analysis: [ Read Here ] #SupremeCourt #SARFAESI #SARFAESIAct #BankingLaw #PropertyLaw

⚖️ BREAKING DOWN THE SUPREME COURT’S 4–4–1 SPLIT
The Supreme Court’s 9-Judge Bench has delivered an unusual divided verdict on the meaning of “industry” under the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947.
🟠 4 Judges: Back CJI Surya Kant’s new formulation — an activity should possess a discernible commercial character analogous to trade or business.
🔵 4 Judges: Expressly uphold the landmark Bangalore Water Supply & Sewerage Board v. A. Rajappa (1978) judgment and its broader triple test.
⚪️ Justice P.S. Narasimha: Says there is no need to disturb Bangalore Water Supply, particularly after the old Act was repealed and replaced by the new labour-code framework.
The big question: Has Bangalore Water Supply been overruled? The answer requires looking beyond the headline. 📖 Read Full analysis: [ Click Here ] #SupremeCourt #LabourLaw #BangaloreWaterSupply #Judiciary #CurrentAffairs

Women are doing more of India’s farm work, but the resources that shape farming—from land and credit to markets and technology—remain unevenly distributed. Women make up roughly 48% of the agricultural workforce, yet operate just 11.72% of India’s farmed area. And for every ₹100 earned by men in agrifood work, women earn about ₹82.
The gap is not just about wages. It affects who is recognised as a farmer, who can access credit and schemes, and how much farms can produce.
