| 20 | Community Reminder: Staying Safe Online
There is an increase in hateful and hurtful posts about refugees on social media right now. It is best not to respond to these posts, as ignoring them is often the safest option.
What to do:
Do not reply to hateful or insulting comments.
Block accounts that threaten or harass you.
Consider reviewing your privacy settings and, if necessary, make your personal social media accounts private or limit who can view your posts and personal information.
If you manage or are featured on the social media accounts of your organization, community group, or learning centre, consider strengthening privacy settings and reviewing publicly shared information where appropriate.
If you feel unsafe, talk to someone you trust, such as a community leader, a refugee organization, or a support group.
Do not share personal information online, such as your phone number, address, ID documents, or current location.
Report harmful posts so the platform can take appropriate action.
How to report a harmful post on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X (Twitter), and other apps:
Tap the three dots (...) on the post, comment, or account.
Tap "Report."
Select the option for hate speech, harassment, discrimination, or other relevant concerns.
You may also contact your community organizations, NGO partners you are connected with, or the UNHCR Community-Based Protection team if you have any questions or concerns regarding this matter.
Remember: Your safety and well-being are more important than responding to harmful content online. | 5 556 |
