They flip from one alliance/partner/spectrum to the other basis convenience. A TMC born out of a platform like Congress was a platform with no ideological base & hence can go back to its parent who essentially was born as a platform for independence struggle, later usurped into a poor dynastic one-upmanship. Therefore you will never see BJP or Left parties splitting. Though Uma Bharti & BS Yedurappa tried creating splinter groups but failed, had to return back. Left witnessed some success but again that was ideologically backed, example- Marxist, Leninist factions. In ideologically based set-ups, leaders come & go, but they themselves aren't the party. When it is alleged opposition is getting finished, the right statement should be - platforms are getting finished.
