10 Ways to Overcome Self-Doubt Once and for All
Self-doubt can be a troubling and persuasive voice that holds you back from seizing your opportunities.
It makes getting started or finishing things harder than they need to be.
So how can you get around that, how can you overcome those times of self-doubt so that you can move forward once again?
Today, I’ll explore 10 tips and habits that have helped me to decrease that destructive inner voice.
1. Become Mindful of Your Thoughts
Watch your thoughts and behaviors from the place of a friendly observer.
Be curious and open-minded about what goes on inside your mind.
When negative thoughts begin to creep in, question how accurate or helpful they are.
2. Identify Your Values
Take a moment to assess your values and what matters most to you.
When you'll recognize these values and what matters to you, the fear of criticism from others will fall by the wayside.
3. Set short-term goals.
It's easy to let doubt creep in when your big goals aren’t immediately realized.
By achieving smaller goals along the way, you can bask in frequent wins.
4. Stop worrying about what others think
It’s natural to want others to like and respect us, but worrying too much could injure your mental health.
If you want to conquer the fear of other people’s opinions, you’ll need to cultivate more self-awareness.
5. Think back to your past achievements
Self-reflection is a fantastic tool, it reminds us that we’re capable of what we want to achieve.
When the uncertainty hits, instead of dwelling on negatives, reflect on what went right and recent achievements.
6. Surround yourself with the right people.
Keep the people who support you close and seek out their feedback on a regular basis.
Distance yourself from individuals who are always pessimistic toward you, and your future prospects.
7. Face your fears.
Don't let fear or self-doubt dictate how you lead your personal life.
Check the worst-case scenarios as well as the risk-reward ratio and face the things that scare you head-on.
8. Try to Not Compare Yourself to Others
There will always be someone who appears to be doing better, getting further, or having more.
Everyone’s journey and ideas of success are different.
Do not benchmark yourself against others’ accomplishments and possessions.
9. Keep a Journal
Journaling is always a therapeutic exercise to practice.
Make an effort to record what you’re thankful for and what you’re proud of doing each day.
Writing down your thoughts of self-doubt on paper might be a good release.
10. Make quick decisions!
It’s very easy to get stuck in trying to make decisions
This back-and-forth process of questioning if you should go with A or B, can exacerbate self-doubt
What's the cure for this?
Just make a decision!
And then correct your course as you go along.
