Now, however, it (China)has announced measures to support the use of cash, such as ordering local authorities to make sure that markets and stores accept banknotes, aware that the reliance on payment apps makes life harder for both foreign tourists and for poorer, rural and elderly Chinese people struggling to access or adapt to new technology. China’s shift to cashless payment was particularly dramatic. But the transition is happening around the world, accelerated by the pandemic – and is raising similar concerns about exclusion. Last month, campaigners in Australia organised a Draw Out Some Cash Day to show that people still care about access.” https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2024/may/01/the-guardian-view-on-the-cost-of-a-cashless-society-the-most-vulnerable-will-pay

Consumers are still withdrawing £209 million a day from cash machines. We are certainly not ready to become a cashless society. However, Prestridge goes on to say: When this digital 'society' finally arrives (hopefully not in my lifetime), it is imperative that it works for everyone. Any digital society that evolves must be inclusive – and must also be far more robust against the threat of scams and fraud than it currently is. So what Prestridge is basically saying is that within the next 30 years or so he envisions a digital, cashless society but it must be 'inclusive'. Now where have we heard that buzzword before. We cannot welcome a fully digital & cashless society into our existence. Ever. The disappearance of cash would ultimately dissolve our personal sovereignty & tie every single person into a chilling panopticon of asymmetric surveillance by the state. That is a future no one, not even Prestridge, should be envisioning or welcoming. https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/comment/article-13432919/JEFF-PRESTRIDGE-Cash-access-crucial-fabric-society.html 🚨 FOLLOW US: X | Telegram

If a shop/business refuses to accept cash, do two things, BOYCOTT them, but also TAKE ACTION. - Demand a manager speaks with you and express your opinion to them about their refusal to accept cash and tell them you will be boycotting them going forward - Explain why you and others need to use cash, stick to facts and don’t go down rabbit holes, most simply aren’t interested (at this stage) and will switch off and dismiss you as a “conspiracist” if they’re overwhelmed with irrelevant info - disabled people need to use cash - this applies not only to those with physical disabilities but also visual disabilities, explain to the manager that BRAILLE is a feature of every bank note, many will not know this. - homeless people need to use cash - tourists need to use cash - children need to use cash - anyone who has lost/forgotten or had their card stolen needs to use cash - unbanked people need to use cash - elderly people need to use cash - people who need to budget need to use cash - those with learning disabilities need to use cash - those in so much debt that their accounts won’t authorise transactions need to use cash - those who wish to avoid and minimise bank fraud/account hacking need to use cash - people who want to preserve their privacy/security, for example from controlling partners, banks etc (example, purchases from “adult stores” 😂 - people want and need a choice! Etc etc Where there is a NEED, there is a RIGHT - Furthermore, every single card transaction means generally 2-5% of the value is lost straight into bank profits and sucked out of the community/society - The COST of these card transactions are passed directly to the consumer by shops/businesses which means unnecessarily higher prices for everyone If they continue to refuse cash, give them negative reviews on social media, the comment sections of their websites, “trip advisor” reviews etc Email or call their head office to complain and explain to them the reasons why they must accept cash, particularly their legal duty under the Equality Act 2010 which whilst not making it illegal to not accept cash, they must make reasonable adjustments for those with disabilities who cannot use cards State you will BOYCOTT them until they accept cash SHUN CARD/PHONE payments - KEEP CASH ALIVE

It was only yesterday that Rishi Sunak said that it was 'imperative' to maintain access to cash. Yet today the UK Govt announced their intention to allow gamblers to use debit cards with slot machines. "The move will allow pubs, casinos and slot venues to compete in an increasingly cashless society, ministers argue." "The changes will be made via a type of legislation that comes into force automatically, and can only be blocked if the House of Commons or Lords objects within a 40-day window." This clearly shows us where the government are when it comes to protecting cash. Nowhere. In the public sphere they continue to wax lyrical about cash access but won't dare to even consider legislating businesses to accept cash in the UK. They're more inclined to listen to the gambling lobby groups than they are their own citizens. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-69021352 🚨 FOLLOW US: X | Telegram

💸 The British PM Rishi Sunak has signalled again that it is 'imperative' to maintain access to cash. This shouldn't be just 'reasonable' access, but equitable access to all. 🫣 But this continues to fall on the deaf ears of the banks including the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) who continue to prove powerless against bank closures. 📈 'Banking deserts' have been emerging more rapidly over the past few years. Parts of Birmingham are one example and this isn't a case where the government have been 'too slow'. This is by design and to ultimately transition the economy to majority digital, leaving a few so called million 'vulnerable' using cash for everyday life. 💪 It's up to us all individually to keep cash in demand and in circulation as much as possible. ❤️ Remember, a cashless society is a soulless society. So let's keep cash alive. 🚨 FOLLOW US: X | Telegram
