🏦THE CENTRAL BANK PROMISE:
💱For years, the Swiss National Bank (SNB) maintained a minimum exchange rate of 1.20 EUR/CHF, preventing the Swiss Franc from becoming too strong.
🚫Whenever the Franc appreciated too much, the SNB stepped into the market by selling Francs and buying foreign currencies. Because of this repeated support, many traders started believing the level was almost impossible to break.
💯Confidence in the central bank was extremely high.
🥸THE TRADE EVERYONE BELIEVED IN:
📎Banks, hedge funds, and retail traders built entire strategies around one assumption:
🛡The SNB would always defend the currency floor.
⚡️Many considered it one of the safest trades in forex because a powerful central bank appeared to be supporting the market.
Then, without warning, everything changed.
💥 WHEN THE FLOOR DISAPPEARED:
📣The SNB suddenly announced that it was removing the currency floor.
