Why do they celebrate New Year's Eve twice in Russia? 👀 Old New Year is one of the most favorite holidays in Russia, which is celebrated on January 13. This holiday has its own history and interesting traditions that are passed down from generation to generation. The history of the Old New Year in Russia began back in 1699. Peter the Great changed the calendar to the Gregorian calendar, which began to be used in Europe. However, Orthodox Christians continued to celebrate the New Year according to the Julian calendar, which lagged behind the Gregorian calendar by 13 days. Thus, January 13 became an additional day for celebrating the New Year. Also on this day it is customary to decorate the Christmas tree and arrange various entertainments. In some Russian cities, festive processions and festivals are held.

After this period, foreign citizens (without Temporary Resident Permit) are required to reapply within 30 calendar days to undergo a medical examination. In case of non-compliance, the period of temporary stay in the Russian Federation for foreign citizens will be shortened.
