BOJ is selling treasuries to buy Yen to prevent the Yen from hyperinflating, they did this back in October 2022 and the effects lasted about 3 months. They did it again yesterday and the effects lasted ONE FUCKING DAY. They appear to be doing again, seems 160 is a trigger point for the BOJ and they cannot stop it from falling past that level anymore. The BOJ is trapped they have to do one of two things: 1. Continue dumping their 1.3 trillion in US treasuries to try and save the Yen, which could cause a sovereign default cascade and therefore the FED will not let them do this for long. 2. Raise interest rates, which will crater the yen even further since the Yen is a pure debt instrument backed by government of Japan bonds. Raising interest rates will devalue the yen further; exact opposite of what it’s suppose to do.
