The Knoxville Police Department released body camera footage from a January 28, 2026 incident in which officers rescued a missing and endangered 15-year-old girl from an apartment on Tillery Road. Authorities say 46-year-old Angel Melendez, who was wanted on multiple charges including concealing a runaway child and theft of a firearm, pointed a handgun at officers after they entered the apartment with the owner’s consent. Officers fatally shot Melendez, and moments later the girl allegedly struck Officer Terry Crowe in the head with a large knife. Crowe was protected by his helmet and was unharmed. The girl was safely recovered, treated at a hospital, and later charged with assault.
