📍SOME OF THE FEATURES OF INDO-ISLAMIC 🔸 The use of arch and domes gained prominence during this period. It was known as ‘Arcuate’ style of architecture and replaced the traditional Trabeate style of architecture. 🔸The Islamic rulers introduced the use of minars around the mosques and the mausoleums. 🔸Mortar was used as a cementing agent in their constructions. 🔸 The Indo-Islamic architecture avoided the use of human and animal figures. 🔸 While the Hindu architecture had become too congested, the Indo- Islamic architecture introduced spaciousness, massiveness and breadth to it.

📌Bathukamma Festival : Festival Of Flowers 🔸The nine-day-long annual festival of flowers Bathukamma began on a colorful note across Telangana. 🔸It is a colorful floral festival celebrated by women with exotic local flowers. 🔸The festival coincides with the monsoon, bringing water to ponds and wildflowers in vibrant colors. 🔸Local flowers like ‘gunuka,’ ‘tangedu,’ ‘banti,’ and ‘nandi-vardhanam’ are abundantly used. 🔸The festival begins a week before the ‘Saddula Bathukamma’ (the grand finale of the Bathukamma festival) which falls two days before Dussehra. 🔸During the entire preceding week, women make ‘boddemma’ (a deity of Gowri – mother Durga – made with earthly mud) along with Batukamma and immerse it in the pond. 🔸This helps reinforce the ponds and helps it retain more water. 🔸The festival reinforces the bond between humans, the earth, and water, with rituals aimed at preserving natural resources.

📌Coral Reef Fossils In Ladakh: 🔸Geologists have made a remarkable discovery of coral reef fossils at an elevation of 18,000 feet above sea level in the Burtse region, Eastern Ladakh Himalayas 🔸These fossils reveal the existence of ancient coral colonies and provide insights into a previously unknown geological past of the Burtse region, suggesting the presence of a diverse marine ecosystem. 🔸The findings support the idea that the Himalayas emerged when continental plates were thrust out of the Tethys Sea about 40 million years ago. 🔸The discovery of coral reef fossils in Ladakh is significant because it indicates that this region, now a high-altitude desert, was once submerged under a vast ocean. 🔸This finding offers insights into Ladakh’s geological history, the impact of tectonic activity, and ancient climate conditions

📌Udangudi Panangkarupatti : GI Tag 🔸Udangudi ‘Panangkarupatti’ (palm jaggery/ gur) from Tamil Nadu has received a Geographical Indication (GI) tag. 🔸The palm jaggery preparation procedure in this area is traditional till date without inclusion of any additional modern strategies. 🔸The karupatti prepared from the palm sap from the region around Udangudi in Tiruchendur taluk in Thoothukudi district has some uniqueness. 🔸This is due to the presence of red sand dune soil found in the region. This soil holds less groundwater. 🔸The moisture content in the atmosphere is less because of the dry climatic condition, which leads to high sucrose content, in turn adding taste. 🔸The region’s dry climate is also suitable for storage of karupatti for a longer duration. 🔸No chemical additives like Triple super phosphate and phosphoric acid are used in its preparation.

🔆Kopili fault zone ✅Recently, researchers from the Indian Institute of Geomagnetism (IIG) have identified seismogenic liquefaction features in the active Kopili Fault (KF) zone. ✅It is a 300 km long and 50 km wide lineament situated in the northeastern region (NER) of India. ✅It extends from the western part of Manipur to the tri-junction of Bhutan, Arunachal Pradesh, and Assam. It is closer to Himalayan Frontal Thrust. ✅This is a seismically active area falling in the highest Seismic Hazard Zone V. ✅It is associated with collisional tectonics because of the Indian Plate subducting beneath the Eurasian Plate. ✅The fault itself is a transpressional fracture that generates lower crustal dextral strike-slip earthquakes. ✅A tectonic depression filled up by the alluvium of the Kopili river and its tributaries, the Kopili fault zone has witnessed many seismic activities in the past including the 1869 earthquake (7.8 magnitude) and the 1943 earthquake (7.3 magnitude).

🔆 Keeladi Excavation Site ✅ The Keeladi excavation site, located along the Vaigai River, is an ancient settlement dating back to the Sangam age. ✅ It is currently under excavation by the Tamil Nadu State Department of Archaeology and the Archaeological Survey of India. ✅ Located about 12 km southeast of the temple city of Madurai, the site has revealed evidence that supports the existence of an urban civilization during the Sangam age providing valuable insights into the ancient history of Tamil Nadu. ✅ The Keeladi excavation site holds great significance as it has helped to push back the timeline of the Sangam age to 800 BCE based on the archaeological findings. ✅ This is a significant discovery as it provides new insights into the ancient history of Tamil Nadu. ✅ Moreover, the excavation site has the potential to provide vital evidence that can help to bridge the gap between the Iron Age (12th century BCE to 6th century BCE) and the Early Historic Period (6th century BCE to 4th century BCE). ✅ The findings from the Keeladi site can help shed light on the cultural developments and societal changes that occurred during this critical period in ancient Tamil Nadu's history. #prelims
