🇷🇺 Russian volunteer participants of the second Anglo-Boer War Honoured in Midrand🇷🇺 🕊️Memory of Russian volunteers who had participated in the second Anglo-Boer war (1899-1902) was honoured on May 31, 2024, in Midrand, as part of the event to commemorate the anniversary of the Treaty of Vereeniging. During the Anglo-Boer War in 1899-1902, some 270 Russian volunteers fought in the ranks of Boer armies. In 1900, Russian Red Cross group and Russian-Dutch ambulance unit were deployed in South Africa, providing medical assistance to both combatants and civilians. The event was attended by Russia’s ambassador to South Africa, Ilya Rogachev. The event was initiated by Afrikaans Cultural Council for the Kliprivier area. The war concluded with absorption of the Boer republics by the British colonial empire.
