GOV UK One Login has a claimed 23 million accounts - with more people being funnelled into it as further government functions and legal obligations move onto the system. A basic email-and-password login is one thing. A reusable government identity system that becomes difficult or costly to avoid is something very different - as millions of company directors have already found. There are also serious whistleblower allegations about One Login security concerns, reported by 'ITV News' 'Andrew Orlowski' 'Telegraph' among others. Together is calling for: 1️⃣ FREEZE ONE LOGIN No further rollout or expansion pending a genuinely independent review. 2️⃣ PROPER PARLIAMENTARY OVERSIGHT No expansion unless strict safeguards for privacy and civil liberties are in place. 3️⃣ PROTECT NON-DIGITAL CHOICE IN LAW Free, genuinely equivalent ways of dealing with government must always remain available. OFCOM: Ofcom was set up to regulate telecoms and broadcasting in 2003. Today, it has more than 1,600 staff and a remit that reaches deep into what we see and say online. There may be a legitimate role for tightly limited technical and economic regulation. That does not give the state a right to control lawful expression or decide which opinions reach an audience. Many would argue Ofcom’s online speech remit should be removed, and we should explicitly prohibit regulatory interference in the ranking or promotion of lawful news and opinion.
