🩸 What is Anemia?
Anemia happens when your body doesn't have enough Red Blood Cells (RBCs) or hemoglobin. RBCs carry oxygen, so if they’re low, your body feels tired, weak, or dizzy.
🌟 Types of Anemia
1. Thalassemia
● Caused by a problem in the gene that makes hemoglobin.
● RBCs don’t form properly.
2. Sickle Cell Anemia
● Another genetic problem.
● RBCs become sickle-shaped (like a banana).
● These cells can block blood flow and break easily.
🥦 What do RBCs need to grow?
To form healthy RBCs, your body need:
1. Iron – Helps make hemoglobin
2. Vitamin B12 – Helps cells divide and grow
3. Folic Acid (Vitamin B9) – Helps build DNA
If these are missing:
Deficiency Disease:
● Iron: Iron-Deficiency Anemia
● Vitamin B12: Pernicious Anemia
● Folic Acid (B9): Megaloblastic Anemia
● Both B12 + B9: Severe Megaloblastic Anemia
🏭 Where are RBCs made?
RBCs are made in the Red Bone Marrow (RBM) – like a blood-making factory.
If RBM is damaged:
By chemotherapy, toxic drugs, or chemicals → Aplastic Anemia
If RBCs are destroyed:
Due to toxins or harmful substances → Hemolytic Anemia
🧠 Summary Map
1. Gene mutation in Hb - Thalassemia
2. Sickle-shaped RBCs from gene defect- Sickle Cell Anemia
3. Iron deficiency- Iron-Deficiency Anemia
4. Vitamin B12 deficiency- Pernicious Anemia
5. Vitamin B9 (Folic acid) deficiency- Megaloblastic Anemia
6. B12 + B9 deficiency- Severe Megaloblastic Anemia
7. Damaged Red Bone Marrow- Aplastic Anemia
8. RBCs destroyed by toxins, drugs, etc.- Hemolytic Anemia
