Losing weight is an old and idiotic way of optimising health.
Most people aren’t too fat so much as they’re under-muscled.
You don’t want to lose weight, you want to build more muscle.
The more muscle you have, the harder your metabolism needs to work to repair and retain that muscle.
By lifting heavy and on a daily basis, you’ll eventually get to certain point of musculoskeletal mass where your maintenance calories will be high but you won’t be getting fatter; you’ll be able to eat a lot more while still not gaining any excess fat, because you’re lifting so regularly and have developed your muscles to such an extent that your metabolism is on fire all day.
And when the gut is forced to work more efficiently to feed your developing muscles, everything in the body begins to work better. Your neurotransmitters which your brain uses as reward systems and to communicate with the rest of your body are made in your gut.
The muscles also have their own hormonal system which, when stimulated through stretching and contracting, literally have anti-depressant effects on the brain.
Build more muscle ought to be the phrase to replace the dated and dumb “lose more weight”.
Just watched Blade Runner 2049 for the first time. God damn that's probably one of the most depressing movies of all time.
