| 2 | Isaac Mwaura~ June 25 will be a normal working day. There is no holiday declaration and all Kenyans have been asked to report to their working places. The government has put in enough mechanisms to protect businesses across the country. Politicians planning to take advantage of the Gen Z commemoration to cause chaos have been put on notice. | 1 426 |
| 3 | Former DP Rigathi Gachagua has officially filed his notice of appeal to challenge the High Court's judgment upholding his impeachment.
Let’s be real here, this isn’t just any regular court process. The High Court already handed him a massive psychological win by ruling that the Senate violated his right to a fair trial (along with a KSh 50M award).
If the Court of Appeal focuses squarely on that constitutional breach, there is a very high probability that this whole impeachment gets completely quashed.
Imagine the legal and political chaos if the ouster is overturned. Things are about to get messy. | 1 373 |

| 6 | Police in Utawala are investigating the mysterious death of a Grade 9 student at Lakewood Private School after he was found dead inside the school compound on Friday morning, having allegedly fallen from the third floor of a building.
The family of 14-year-old Randy Mathenge is demanding answers and rejecting the school’s account that he jumped and died instantly. They are calling for a thorough and independent investigation, saying the explanation remains unconvincing and questioning how their son could have died barely an hour after arriving at school in good health.
According to the family, school administrators told them Randy allegedly jumped from one of the buildings, citing mental distress as a possible cause. But the family disputes that account, alleging a possible cover-up and urging detectives to reconstruct the scene, particularly over claims that he suffered fatal head injuries without visible injuries on the rest of his body. | 2 634 |

| 8 | EVERY media house has a bias. The myth is not that bias exists; the myth is that any institution run by human beings can be completely neutral.
News is not merely about facts. It is about which facts are selected, which headlines are written, which stories are amplified, and which are buried on page seven. Editorial judgment is, by its very nature, an exercise in preference.
A media house is a collection of human beings with interests, values, fears, ideological leanings, commercial pressures, ownership structures, and political calculations. To expect absolute neutrality from such a system is to misunderstand how information ecosystems function.
The intelligent citizen does not consume news seeking objectivity from a single source. They consume multiple sources, identify patterns, compare narratives, and distinguish facts from framing.
What many people call "media bias" is often simply the moment a media house stops confirming their personal beliefs. A report feels objective when it agrees with us and biased when it challenges us.
The real danger is not bias. Bias is inevitable. The real danger is undisclosed bias masquerading as objective truth.
In mature democracies, media houses are expected to have perspectives. The responsibility lies with citizens to understand those perspectives and interrogate them critically. Blind trust in any media outlet is as dangerous as blind distrust of all of them.
The solution has never been to find a perfectly neutral media house. The solution is to cultivate a population capable of critical thinking, media literacy, and intellectual skepticism.
Thats why some people view Standard Digital, Daily Nation and People Daily as anti Government while as they treat The Star as a Government mouth peace. On the same breath, Kameme FM Official the Spice, K47 and TV47 are viewed differently.
Equally, media personalities are judged sometimes with the stations they work for or the political alignments they seem to keep. Even in developed democracies like the US has similar biases. CNN, Fox, Al Jazeera all report differently.
Thats why I see Baby Top and Gatonye Mbugua as champions of civic education than incitors as some quarters suggest. Information is power. Understanding who is presenting that information—and why—is wisdom. | 5 935 |

| 20 | For eight years, passengers boarded planes believing they were in the safe hands of a fully qualified pilot. Few could have imagined that the man behind the controls would later stand in court accused of building his aviation career on forged academic papers.
Ahmad Nassir Dirie Olow was arraigned before Nairobi Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku after investigators accused him of falsifying documents to gain admission into an aviation training school. Prosecutors stated that the KCSE certificate he presented showed impressive grades, including a B+ mean score, but investigations later established that the results did not belong to him.
Investigations revealed that officers from the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit sought confirmation from Wajir High School, the institution listed in the documents. The school principal informed the court that no academic records bearing Olow’s name could be traced, raising serious questions about the authenticity of the certificate used to launch his career.
Using the forged papers, Olow secured admission into a Kenyan aviation college, completed his training, and eventually earned certification as a commercial pilot. Over the years, he flew passengers across different routes without raising suspicion about his academic background.
Despite the doubts surrounding his credentials, his actual flying ability sparked debate. Lieutenant Colonel (Rtd.) Adan Ali, a director at 99 Flying School based at Wilson Airport, testified that he personally trained Olow and confirmed that he successfully passed all aviation examinations and demonstrated the competence required to operate an aircraft safely.
Olow denied the charges in court and was released on a cash bail of KSh 65,000 as the case proceeds.
In 2016, Ronald Kiprotich Melly worked as an unqualified doctor at Kapsabet County Referral Hospital before later being transferred to head Meteitei Sub-County Hospital. Despite lacking proper qualifications, he carried out eight successful surgeries before his deception was uncovered.
These incidents continue to fuel a difficult questions:
Should highly technical professions such as piloting, medicine, and engineering be judged strictly by academic papers and grades, or should actual skill, competence, and performance carry equal weight? | 11 558 |
