📉 Weak employment: US private payrolls rose by 98,000 in June, below expectations of 118,000. This led to a big rebound in the gold market.
🪙 Gold prices rose: Spot gold rose 0.9% to $4,065.51 an ounce. US gold futures for August delivery fell slightly to $4,078.20.
🏛 Fed Chairman's Statement: Fed Chairman Kevin Warsaw said that inflation risks have eased somewhat in recent weeks, but that they remain committed to meeting their 2% inflation target.
⏳ Next Watch: June non-farm payrolls (NFP) data will be released at 12:30 GMT today, which will play a major role in the Fed's next interest rate decision. The probability of a rate cut in September is now about 64%.
🛢 Oil prices and other metals: Oil prices fell as the Iran-US indirect talks ended without a lasting solution. Silver (1.8%), platinum (2.3%) and palladium (1.5%) also rose.
