1 a) i) Values are beliefs, feelings, and experiences that people consider important and desirable. Examples are; freedom, beauty, peace, knowledge, wealth, etc. ii) Sources of values are; -Personal experiences - Family influence -Culture -Daily interactions with people. b) i) PERSONAL VALUES- These are those beliefs we hold most dear. They can be desirable goals that motivate our actions and guide us through our lives. Values often weave into our personalities and define who we are. They become a part of us and influence our decisions and actions. Personal values differ from person to person and are often affected by one’s culture, upbringing, and life experiences—among other factors. E.g Punctuality, devotion to work, defense, beauty, etc. ii) MORAL VALUES- Moral values are the standards by which we define right and wrong. They can come from the self, family, community, religion, government, or any other entity that influences the thoughts of the individual. E.g Honesty, integrity, dependability, and truthfulness. iii) SOCIAL VALUES- These are values that deal with relationships with others since human beings are not alone. Social values include justice, freedom, respect, community, and responsibility. In today's world, it may seem our society doesn't practice many values. We have a rise in discrimination, abuse of power, greed, etc. iv) SOCIETAL VALUES- These are values held by a nation, a community, or a group within the society. They may be generally accepted beliefs. E.g way of dressing, respect for the elderly, code of behavior, etc. C. i) Values are abstract and not concrete. This means, values cannot be held, seen, or touched but can be felt or sensed them. ii) They are complex. i.e Sometimes one does not know which value is operating. iii) They are expressed in strong terms. i.e They involve emotions. iv) Values change in importance over time. i.e Value can change over the family life cycle or with different experiences.
