I am Roja S Rajan. I have secured AIR-108 in UPSC CSE 2021. I am born and brought up in Trivandrum and did my Computer Science and Engineering graduation from Sree Chitra Thirunal College of Engineering, Tvm. After completing my under graduation, I worked as an Engineer at Tata Elxsi in Trivandrum branch. I started my UPSC journey in 2019, but the dream to study for it roots back to 2013 when Haritha V Kumar from Kerala cleared with AIR 1. My optional was Anthropology and I was able to clear the examination in my second attempt. In my first attempt, I couldn’t clear the CSAT paper. But the time I got after failing my first prelims helped me clear in my next chance. For Anthropology I had not taken any coaching. I was making notes from basic materials in the market suggested by toppers. By february end 2020, I winded up my half-baked mains preparation and started off with exclusive prelims study. But the exam got postponed which gave me few more months to prepare for mains. I used this time to revise and compile my Paper 1 Anthro notes. I was also writing on Team Anthro Telegram channel on a daily basis and getting my answers peer-reviewed. I started writing essays on weekly basis during this time period and got them evaluated by my mentors. All this while my GS was being ignored and I was not aware of it. From September 2020, I started preparing for Prelims exclusively. Despite passing the first paper’s cut off, I could not appear for Mains due to failure in CSAT paper. This affected my confidence and shattered my spirit. It took me around 2 months to get back on track.
