Peter Chilvers - Dust 1 1. Once Great Worlds 05:40 2. Gathered Into Clouds 02:16 3. Dust Becomes Everything 12:22 4. Once Great Worlds (Binaural Headphones Mix) 05:40 5. Gathered Into Clouds (Binaural Headphones Mix) 02:16 6. Dust Becomes Everything (Binaural Headphones Mix) 12:22 Curious Music is very pleased to announce Dust, a series of instrumental EPs by Peter Chilvers. This series showcases Chilvers' distinctive style, characterized by a blend of improvised piano, electronic textures, and occasional upright bass. Notably influenced by his two decades of collaboration with Brian Eno, Dust explores innovative music manipulation techniques. Dust signifies our accelerating interest in pursuing creative projects that develop organically, with the "launch" representing more the beginning of exploration rather than the conclusion. Dust is not a static release; it will be an evolving, multi-disciplinary experience, growing and transforming over time, aligned with the creative impulse as opposed to a schedule. Dust 1, the first EP in the series, presents a rich auditory experience, blending organic and electronic elements to create a captivating soundscape. Chilvers' innovative approach is evident in the intricate layers and evolving textures throughout the EP. Peter Chilvers talks about Dust The piano I’ve been playing the piano for nearly fifty years, improvising on it is second nature to me. I’m fascinated by the possibilities of extending it both sonically and electronically. The final two tracks (Life Finding Form and In Hidden Places) are essentially piano sextets, I love the space that creates. Themes I’m intruiged by processes in nature ; from the ways galaxies or weather systems form to the way surfaces decay or are overrun with moss. That’s always at the back of my mind when I make music this way, I’m looking to give notes life after they leave my fingers. These ideas are brilliantly reflected in the visual representation that the artist Petulia Mattioli created for this project. Eno influence For nearly two decades, I’ve been developing software with Brian Eno to perform many exotic types of music manipulation. While Brian’s focus has been on generative music, my main interest has been on live improvisation. During the lockdown, I began developing a set of tools with this in mind ; I’ll improvise an idea, then continue to improvise as my laptop echoes back variations on the idea. Most of the tracks across Dust involved this process in some form. Often I’d take the initial pieces and shape them further, sometimes improvising additional layers, other times, particularly on the later tracks in the series, I’d simply cut sections. Dolby Atmos One of the great joys for me in this process was creating Dolby Atmos mixes, which expand out into three dimensions. I’ve mixed a number of Brian’s multi-speaker sound installations in the past, and it’s a natural fit for more ‘landscaped’ music. Particularly with the longer instrumentals, I’ve tried to sit the listener in the middle of a sea of sound - this seems far more natural to me than listening to performers on a stage. Technical note for the Bandcamp exclusive Binaural Headphones Mixes: Thanks to some remarkable software called APL Virtuoso, I’ve translated the Atmos mixes into binaural mixes. These can be played on any headphones, but should give a sense that music is coming from all directions. This can vary according to ear shape, headphones and surroundings, but I hope you’ll enjoy a greater sense of space. ’Spatialise Stereo’ should be switched off if playing through AirPods. About Peter Chilvers Peter is a musician and software designer, best known for creating the iOS applications Bloom, Trope, Scape and Reflection with Brian Eno, touring with Karl Hyde (Underworld), and for his collaborations with Tim Bowness.

Since 2006, he has worked as a musical and technical assistant to Brian Eno on projects including the soundtracks to The Lovely Bones and Spore, album collaborations with David Byrne and the releases Small Craft on a Milk Sea, Drums Between the Bells and Lux. He worked as Assistant Producer on Eno’s 2016 release The Ship, for which he also helped develop the multi-speaker installation which has been shown in many countries. His software has played a behind-the-scenes role in many of Eno’s recent albums. He has played keyboards live with Brian Eno, first at his Acropolis concert with Roger Eno in 2021, and then for the acclaimed SHIPS tour across Europe with the Baltic Sea Philharmonic in October 2023. A spacious and introspective approach to the piano is at the heart of much of Peter's music, expanded by orchestrated electronic textures. released June 1, 2024

Lypso 05:28 Lorenzo Montanà is an Italian soundtrack composer, sound engineer, and producer with a prolific career spanning decades. Vion is his 29th full-length album and marks his first solo effort for the Oakland-based emotive electronics outpost n5MD. Montanà's musical journey began in the 90s, and he has produced and arranged over 40 albums across various genres, including electronic, ambient, leftfield, jazz, classical, and rock. Vion started as an exploration of jazz brush drum patterns, evolving into a rich tapestry of experimental electronica motifs and percolating ambiance. Montanà's signature motion-filled compositions are evident throughout the album, characterized by ever-evolving details and a sense of lightness juxtaposed with melancholic tonality. Montanà's discography includes his debut solo album 'Black Ivy' (2009), the 5-CD Labyrinth collaboration series with Pete Namlook on Namlook's FAX label, and rewarding collaborative releases with artists like Namlook, Yamaoka, ILUITEQ, and Alio Die for the Projekt label. His work as a soundtrack composer has been featured in trailers for notable films such as The Hunger Games 1 & 2, Blade Runner 2049, and Coriolanus. released May 31, 2024

Study for Tape Hiss and Other Audio Artefacts 11:58 7. Apparition 5 02:45 The Itself Of Itself was selected from 10 years worth of recordings, the ones chosen being those that I felt added something a bit different to the catalogue. It's probably the most noisy and experimental Bass Communion album, but perhaps also the most carefully constructed since I've been messing about with these tracks on and off for the best part of a decade. Most tracks incorporate ‘unwanted’ analogue artefacts such as tape hiss, wow and flutter, static noise, and sonic break-up. One of the other main sound sources is my trusty mellotron, but made to sound like it's buried under layers of rust and dirt. "...fragmented, garbled and buried voices, vast vacillating banks of grainy hum, what sounds like the dying gasps of an oboe, spooky swirls from an indiscernible source, swathes of tape hiss, moody drones, and spiralling slivers of noise." released May 30, 2024 Produced and performed by Steven Wilson, selected from recordings made between 2014-23. Audio artefacts and noise such as tape hiss, wow and flutter, vinyl crackle and earth hum are (probably) deliberate. Audio Resolution: 96K 24-bit

Presented as a photo zine in tandem with an album of music (CD & digital), Umbel follows previous offerings Faults, Coasts, Lines and Lux: Refractions, combining photography and long form electronic music. Umbel, the zine, collects a series of full colour photos taken in the dwindling light of dusk under a blossoming maple tree. Long exposures capture painted light and a shadowy canopy under a dimming sky. The images are gestural and murky - light layered and smeared - innocuous moments of time revealing hidden noise, shadows and depth. The music is similarly removed from real time. Synthesized passages are looped, layered and repeated, feeding back into themselves to form a contracting density. releases May 31, 2024
