Vatican Library Adopts NFTs to Preserve Manuscript Collection In collaboration with NTT DATA Italia, the Vatican Library has introduced a new initiative to preserve its extensive manuscript collection by leveraging blockchain technology, and will distribute NFTs to donors and social media users in Italy. Announced on Monday, the “Web3 Support Project” aims to expand the library’s online community and engage supporters through modern technology. Participants who share the project on social media until July 16 will receive a “Silver NFT,” providing access to 15 different manuscripts while donors will receive a “Gold NFT,” granting access to 21 manuscripts. These soulbound NFTs are non-transferable and permanently linked to the recipient’s digital wallet. Source

Doodles’ Stoodio Moves to Base, Launches Open-Edition NFT Mint Doodles has announced plans to migrate its avatar customization platform ‘Stoodio’ from the Flow blockchain to Ethereum’s layer-2 scaling network, Base. Stoodio will make the transition to Base, while Doodles’ original PFP collection will remain on Ethereum. The transition is scheduled for mid-July and aims to take advantage of Base’s faster and more cost-effective transactions compared to the Ethereum mainnet. Creators of ‘OpenSeason’ Announces Airdrop for NFT Holders Fractional Uprising Studios, the developers behind the Ethereum-based battle royale game OpenSeason, announced a token airdrop for holders of their NFT membership passes. The airdrop is scheduled for this week and involves the distribution of FU Money ($FU) tokens. OpenSeason, available on the Epic Games Store, requires Ethereum NFT access passes for entry. Holders of these passes will receive a portion of the 62.1M $FU tokens designated for the initial airdrop, representing 10% of the total $FU token supply. The distribution will be based on wallet snapshots taken at three different times with long-term holders receiving more tokens, and will be released on Arbitrum, an Ethereum layer-2 scaling network. On Monday, the project announced that it will migrate its “Stoodio” avatar customization platform to Ethereum layer-2 scaling network Base, departing the Flow blockchain in the process. The transition, set to take place in mid-July, aims to leverage Base's cheaper and faster transactions compared to the Ethereum mainnet. Base, which was developed by popular crypto exchange Coinbase, is gaining steam within the increasingly crowded field of Ethereum scaling networks. The original Doodles profile picture (PFP) collection will remain on Ethereum, and only the Stoodio and the various NFT wearables and character customizations will make the shift from Flow to Base. Doodles CEO Julian Holguin told Decrypt that leaving Flow—which the project picked back in early 2023—wasn’t due to particular issues or complaints with the network behind NBA Top Shot and other apps, but had more to do with the project’s vision for the future. South Korea Introduces Guidelines for NFTs as Virtual Assets South Korea’s financial regulators have introduced new guidelines for NFTs in preparation for the upcoming Virtual Asset User Protection Act, effective July 19. This update marks a reclassification of NFTs, which were previously not considered virtual assets in South Korea. The updated guidance specifies conditions under which NFTs will be categorized as virtual assets. While standard NFTs primarily traded for their collectible value will remain outside the virtual asset framework, those with dual characteristics will undergo closer scrutiny and may be classified as securities or virtual assets based on their inherent features.
