Teacher Tukaram Adsul of Gitewadi, Maharashtra, is on a mission to help his students fall in love with books instead of getting addicted to mobile phones. Tukaram's journey as an educator began when he realized that the digital age had created a new challenge, with children neglecting their studies in favor of smartphones. Determined to turn the tide, Tukaram started distributing books to his students, drawing from his personal collection and occasionally dipping into his own pocket. A Story a Day Don't Miss the Opportunity A man went to the beach, took a bath, played with the waves, then had his lunch and found a place to rest. There were no trees nearby. Ahead were some huge boulders. Behind them was a hilly area. He walked towards the hill, with the intention of lying down under the trees and resting. He saw a cave behind the trees. He went there out of curiosity. It was a big cave, pretty clean. There were signs that someone had been there before. Someone had left a feather mat. He slept on the mat. The cave was cool and very windy. He woke up after sleeping for a couple of hours. Before leaving, he noticed a cloth bag in the corner of the cave and picked it up. There were hundreds of lumps of clay in it, each about the size of a tennis ball. Maybe someone had brought some children and stayed in this cave, and the children would have made these mud balls. He shouldered the bag and went back to the sea. He was walking on the shore next to the water waves. Then he wanted to reduce the weight of the bag. He removed a lump and forcefully threw it as far into the water as possible. Then he walked a little further and threw another ball, and it became a kind of game. After some time, he climbed a nearby rock and stood. A couple of lumps were thrown from there. There were three or four lumps left. When he was about to remove another one and throw it away, his foot slipped. The ball in his hand fell on the rock and broke. A light shone from within. He bent down to see what it was. It was a shining diamond! Surprised, he broke the remaining two lumps and saw that each of them was also a diamond. He was not happy to see them. Instead, he started crying. He sat down and hiccupped. Diamonds were sitting in hundreds of lumps of clay in his bag, and he had not known their value and had thrown them into the water! Hundreds of events happen in our life, whether we like it or not. Hundreds of people come in contact with us. Each of them is like lumps of clay. If we observe them closely, if we touch them with love, the diamond inside is visible. We often forget them and miss the opportunity to see the good in everyone. The MD & CEO of IDFC First bank is V.Vaidyanathan. Born in Chennai, he studied at Birla Institute of Technology (Mesra). The story goes that when he got the admission into BITS, he did not have the money to travel there to appear for the interview and complete the counselling formalities. Mr. Gurdial Saini, his then maths teacher lent him Rs.500 to travel for the interview. Vaidyanathan studied at BITS, Mesra and did well in his professional life. Vaidyanathan searched for him to repay but Mr.Saini had moved jobs. Many years later, with the help of a former colleague, he got to know that Mr.Saini is in Agra, called him up, expressed his gratitude for the timely help. Last week, IDFC FIRST Bank made a regulatory filing to the stock exchanges. *SACHIN TENDULKAR & SAD STORY OF ANIL GURAV :* There were two extremely talented batsmen from Mumbai. Their coach was Ramakant Achrekar Sir. Both had a brother named Ajit. While one Ajit guided his younger brother in the right direction to give India Sachin Tendulkar, the other Ajit went down and took his brother and his potentially great career down along with him. This is the story of that unfortunate batsman whom Sachin used to address as “Sir”. He is Anil Gurav and this is his story: He used to play for the Mumbai U-19 team. Coach Ramakant Achrekar used to ask youngsters Tendulkar and Kambli to watch Anil Gurav's strokeplay and learn from him.He was called the Viv Richards of Mumbai and everyone thought it would be Anil Gurav who would first go on to play for India. He says regarding his association with Sachin : "I was his captain at Sassanian (cricket club). He wanted to use my bat but was too shy to ask me directly. The request came through Ramesh Parab (now international scorer at Wankhede stadium), and I told Sachin he could use it provided he made a big score. He said,'I will, sir' and went on to score a century with my SG bat." However Anil Gurav fell a victim to circumstances. His brother Ajit became a sharpshooter of an underworld gang. Police officers used to pick up Anil Gurav and his mother repeatedly and severely beat them up to find out the whereabouts of his brother Ajit, sometimes detaining them for days. By the time this ordeal ended, Anil Gurav's cricketing career was also over. He took to heavy drinking. Everything was lost, his career, his dreams, all went up in smoke. He now lives in a shabby 200 sqft room in a slum in Nalasopara, Mumbai. Anil Gurav says he last met Sachin in the early 1990s at the Islam Gymkhana at Marine Lines, when he saw Sachin getting into his car surrounded by security guys. Sachin saw him and at once recognized him. He called him and spoke for a couple of minutes and asked him to come to his home. Now while Sachin Tendulkar has become a legend of the Cricket world who went on to achieve everything, Anil Gurav is a 48-50-year-old incorrigible drunk striving to keep his family together Both of them were talented but talent is not the only component. *This story illustrates how a good family background and support is invaluable,Not everyone is lucky enough to have it.
