A recently leaked directive details the Chinese Communist Party’s strategy to respond to Trump’s tariffs, which have dealt a major blow to China’s already ailing economy. “In Chinese, they call it ‘wei ji.’ ‘Wei ji’ is ‘crisis’ and ‘opportunity.’ So any crisis will be considered an opportunity,” says China analyst Heng He. The directive calls for a “decisive struggle” to crush America’s post-WWII dominance in economics, military power, and global politics. The United Front Work Department and Ministry of Foreign Affairs will work together and target European countries like Germany, France, and England as well as Canada and countries in Asia to form a united front against the United States in the US-China trade war. It also directs all levels of government to plan for rationing systems and prepare for the worst, describing it as a “secret weapon” to winning the trade war. Meanwhile, Party officials and their families are being told to prepare to move overseas funds back to China—or to approved countries—if a total decoupling becomes necessary. Two top-level CCP officials recently swapped positions, in an unprecedented move in CCP history.
